Russia to outlaw emo

Post by sunnyside »

At first I thought it was a joke, but it's showing up a lot of places.

It's been a while since a music genre/subculture made a near superpower stand up and take notice.

Yeah, let's ban it. Because that won't make it seem all forbidden and exciting and glamorous to the kids. Nope, not one little bit.

They'll be able to ship them to Georgia shortly, they'll fit right in with all the other depressed people.

Seriously though, this is pretty dumb. Right up their with outlawing rock music and western cinema in the USSR.

" Let's make it illegal to be depressed"?

Seriously? How about addressing the causes of their depression? Like the fact that modern "enlightened" society is mostly a bullsh*t popularity/conformity contest where how wealthy your family is to start with determines how far you're likely to get?

I suppose they'd prefer a bunch of angry, violent kids over the depressed, supposedly suicidal ones, right? :?

Actually, I guess they'd just like all of the kids to be quiet and conform to the societal norms, as absurd and injust as they may be.
There is only one way of avoiding the war – that is the overthrow of this society. However, as we are too weak for this task, the war is inevitable. -L. Trotsky, 1939

Bite me, hick-boy.

Anyway, I don't think we have the technology just yet to enforce a ban on a mindset, do we?

True. And I've made other emo friends online. My prejudice towards groups is moldable enough to not judge people when I first meet them and be okay when someone proves not to be the norm. Illegal mexican immigrants for example. I hate them but it would be possible for myself to become friends with one.

Besides, I've always considered Reliant more goth. And I like goths.

Reliant does seem more Goth to me, but he's also a cool guy.
