Seriously, dude it's a BBS username. It's not your RL name, so what does it matter? It's not like she's calling you shiteater or something derogatory.

But maybe you should send her a PM explaining your thoughts and ask her to call you ChakatBlackstar or whatever your preffered abbrieviation is.

That will soon be only half true. I'm in the process of changing my legal last name to Blackstar.

That's how it's turned out, but there have been plenty of times people have referred to him as "Cpl", or me as "Captain S.", or some variation on that. Neither of us have complained, as they're just as valid abbreviations as "Kendall" or "Seafort".
What else am I supposed to do?
Quiting whinging about trivia would be a good start.

Yes, but Chakat and especially Chak is not a valid abbreviation like Cpl or Captain S. is.

Of course they are - they simply chop off the second half of the username, just as Cpl or Captain S. do.

Cpl and Captain are titles or rather ranks, whereas Chakat is not. It's more like the equivilent of Mr. or Miss./Mrs. After a while wouldn't you get tired of being called Mister all the time?

So? Those words are the first parts of our usernames. Chakat is the first part of your username. QED.

No I wouldn't. It's considered a sign of respect. Honestly dude, there are far more important things to get worked up on this board than a new member not calling you what your prefer. You choose a name containing a fictional little heard of creature, what did you expect would happen?

Well it's in my fraking sig! I'm just saying it's in the sig, so you'd think it would be easyier for people to have a clue about it.

If you've got such a beef with being called Chakat, then why don't you ask Graham or Ian to change your username to "Blackstar", or "Blackstar the Chakat", or some such, rather than making a prat of yourself on a regular basis.

I don't know about you but I don't expect people to remember every detail of a board member and I typically don't read sigs (and if I do I forget about them shortly after). How many people for example know that I have a blog or what's in it?

This is a hobby for most of us and to expect people to put more effort into this than they would in RL is fairly unreasonable.

I think Blackstar the Chakat is too long for the site.

Nope - it's got fewer characters than "Captain Picard's Hair".
