College/University Degrees

Post by Tsukiyumi »

I was just curious who here has a degree (or more than one), and if so, in what?

I have an Associates in Adolescent Math education. I am currently working for a masters in education with a minor in math and physics.
Basically, I want to be a High school math and/or physics teacher.

BA in Military History - I'd like to do a Masters at some point, but not just yet.

Somebody should start a poll for how many teachers we have on here. Seems to be a rather high percentage.

Aniera: phamaceuticals, eh? I like chemistry quite a bit, myself.

What kind of phamaceuticals are you involved in? You said concentrating in medical, so... antibiotics, pain relievers, cancer treatments, what?

Seafort: I'd have guessed that.

We should have a discussion on some of the more interesting/important historical battles at some point.

Well I'm relatively new to the industry but I really like it. I started out four years ago in Environmental Chemistry (which by the way pays shit for what you're actually working with) Then I moved to food when I worked for Kraft foods in their gelatin plant (which, to this day I still refuse to eat anything gelatin based or go anywhere near kraft mac n cheese). When I moved to pharma, I started out doing microbiological tests on insulin. That company went under and I was laid off earlier this year. Now I work on a developmental cancer vaccine. But I'm not too fond of this company...we'll see what happens. I'm not much of a chemist unfortunately. I prefer to look at things under microscopes :)

Even knowing what's in gelatin makes me a bit off-put by it, but jell-o is just so damn good. :D

I'm just glad you aren't working on anti-psychotics; I distrust the industry's current ability to successfully tamper with brain chemistry. Cancer vaccine? Like the one for HPV? I'm assuming you're working on other types of cancer?

Well the thing we're working on was recently approved in Russia for Renal Cell Carcinoma but we're also working on other types of cancers.

addendum: Horse hooves are -not- in gelatin :)

They can do their stated job: mine have done away with my delusions and hallucinations. Of course, Risperdal was also responsible for my blood sugar problems...

I'm a senior at the City University of New York (College of Staten Island, to name the particular school) studying Engineering science with a concentration in mechanical engineering. Turns out it'll go one semester extra (three remaining total) in order to complete the senior design project, so I'd graduate in January 2010.

Interesting. There's a job you can take pride in.

I know.

I'm in the process of getting one in Physics (touch wood), assuming I get the grades I'll start the course in September. If I'm good enough I'm hoping to get a doctorate in it.

I didn't say they never work; merely that I'm not comfortable with overmedication at this stage of drug development. Hell, Xanax works great when I have panic attacks that I can't meditate down.

That's awesome. I also love engineering (structural mostly), but my awful math skills always kept me from attempting to get a degree in it. :(

Where's the option for working on more than one degree?!

I'll be done with my history degree end of Fall semester. And I'll hopefully be done with my video degree at the end of the spring semester. My school doesn't have emphasis on different history degrees but my video emphasis is technical and directing (you pick 2 out of 3, third being acting, at my school... which is kind of stupid they should be teaching technical communications if they wanted people to get a job, I know that now and I'm upset, we have no photoshop classes, we have no flash classes, and all that stuff. Companies now want people who can do all the aspects of technical communications. But don't get me started on that. Damn this is a long (), usually they're suppose to be just a few words.)
How many Minbari does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
None. They always surrender right before they finish the job and never tell you why.
