Well, we dont know the specifics about the tholians or gorn, but the Cestus 3 episode 'The Arena', didn't establish the Gorn as a major power, although plenty of non-cannon tabletop wargames and computer games ran with the Gorn as a power, in trek cannon, theres' simply not enough we know about the Gorn, apart from several references and one appearance in 'enterprise'.
I love the tholian assembly, especially the Spock and T'Pol comments about the tholians annexing new systems and the participation of the tholians in the temporal cold war etc, star trek starcharts (non-cannon) shows a somewhat impressive area for the tholian assembly and several non-cannon games even have the tholians as refugees from another galaxy, but in terms of cannon, tholian space is pretty much another unknown quantity like the Gorn, or Tzenkethi.
I just wish that the Tholians hadn't chickened out when the Dominion attacked the Antwerp Conference in 2372, and yes they may not have ''chickened out'' per se, but seeing fleets of tholian ships on either side, would have been spectacular.......

I like the non canon info abouts Tholians. That they have a mini Dyson sphere around a dwarf star. They used to own a whole galaxy as slave lords till they got over thrown and fled here.

What?

Where does that come from?

I non-canon as non-canon unless it becomes canon - ie it turns up in live-action Trek.

Especially stupidity such as this game apparently depicts. Mini Dyson's sphere's and a former galactic empire? This would make the Tholian industrial and technological base far stronger than any other Trek species. If they've got this stuff, why aren't they the dominant power of the AQ at the very least?

Mini Dyson's sphere
How can it be mini? Isn't the point that you builed one at just the right distance from the star.

Presumably the "mini" refers to it being much smaller than the ~300 million km sphere required for a sun-type star, since this thing was apparently built around a dwarf star. Still doesn't change the fact that such a feat would comfortably outstrip anything any of the major powers have built.

Its built around a dwarf star so could be smaller. Tholians like things hot so could be smaller still.

Still impressive though.

I've just read reports on this. But from what I gathered they got over thrown and just escaped with a few ships and the sphere. Since they were refugees they lost a lot of tech and resources... *shrug* I'll look it up latter.

Even so, they'd have warp technology capable of moving a Dyson Sphere, and capable of intergalactic flight. The former demonstrates technology close to that of the Time Lords, and the latter would given them strategic mobility comparable to that of a Borg transwarp hub. Their advantage over any other species would be insurmountable.

Indeed. Not to mention the whole question of how a highly advanced galaxy-spanning empire could be reduced to a small group doing virtualy nothing in another galaxy. It's a bit implausable for me.

The Dutch used to be the worlds second biggest super power. Now they grow flowers.

True.

What overthrew the Tholians from their own galaxy? Did they get into a war with someone more powerful than them?

A slave race they had dominated found a counter to their tech since it had a universal componant. Then went on a rampage killing them all.
