Great ambassador to the UN. Great choice.

I don't know what they think they could achieve on the "less violence in Iraq" front by attacking Iran.

But I could see hitting them for the nukes.

Personally my take on recent global stuff.

Afganistant We were right to go there, should be focusing more on it.
Iraq Not a good idea. The Saber rattling was good. But we didn't need to take it all the way.
N Korea. Should have hit them. Though they might be more of a problem for their neighbors than the US. So that might be why we let it slide.

Iran. Honestly I would like to get out of Iraq first. They could be a pain there. Though I suppose having control of Iraqi Airspace means we could keep Iran off of Israel if Israel is the country that hits Iran. I just hope they remember to get both the nuke plant and the centerfuges.

I wonder if this guy that leaked this is betraying the party/military or if he was supposed to drop that in the hopes Iran might listen to diplomacy if they really believe they'll get hit and soon if they keep going for nukes.

No!
Unless you want to end up with millions dead, virtualy every major South Korean city in ruins, and the Asian economy wrecked, you cannot attack NK.
North Korea may not have nukes, but it does have thousands of hidden artilary emplacements hidden along the border. The vast majority are aimed at the Southern capital, Seoul. The moment war breaks out, Seoul is going to be a smoking wasteland from all the shells hitting it. If that happens, it takes the Asian economy down with it, along with millions of innocent civilians. It would be a bloodbath.

Not to mention the N Koreans have been taught all their lives about the evils of America. I'm not saying that the North Koreans are stupid by any means but their lives have been carefully controlled so long you simply can't win the hearts and minds there.

Indeed. You'd be fighting a brainwashed and fanaticaly loyal population.

From what I've heard from my few S. Korean friends.... the divide is not so stark as people imagine and N. and S. Koreans try to correspond and what not. A lot of N. Koreans would move to the South if they could, or to Japan or the U.S. I think it's prudent not to get too carried away with thinking just because someone has a bad government, everyone in the country generally supports or is a helpless brainwashing victim of said government. That line of thinking tends to justify civilian deaths and doesn't really do any other good.

The North Koreans may want an easier life in the south but they will still fight to the death to defend the North.

Er... hate to be a hate-party pooper, but how could anybody need this latest revelation to understand that Bolton is a imbecile? He's got a long pre-UN history of being an imbecile; his entire UN record comprises being an imbecile; and he's more of a Bush lap-dog than Medvedev will end up being for Putin.

Just really surprised to hear it, Rochey. (That's a good thing-- I don't know pot about most other countries' politics, and you always seem well informed.) Bolton was George W. Bush's "F*** you" to the U.N. I mean, appointing someone who has practically made a CAREER out of public vitriol against the U.N., as the U.N. Ambassador...

In this case, it makes you almost WISH he'd just appointed some random rich git who used to race horses, instead of this guy. Where's "Brownie" when you need him?

Reagan's favorite snack was Jelly Belly Jellybeans, Bush senior's was fried pork rinds, Clinton's was cigars soaked "in cider"(get it?), and Dubya is a Ding Dong.
