The Great Pacific Garbage Patch...

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water...

So much for tropical paradise...

Not in about ten years. This really pisses me off. Shouldn't we use material that lasts nearly forever for things we expect to last - not things we toss out? The rest should be carefully monitored. What a f*cking offensive situation. I happen to love the ocean, personally.

EDIT:

I thought that myself. If they can send massive ships to sweep the sea clean of fish, they shouldn't have any trouble sending a massive collection ship to pick this crap up.

I'm from the Vancouver are, so I remember the incidents of trash washing up like in the article (especially the shoes). Personally I miss the glass and paper containers we used to have. You used to turn them in all the time because you actually got money for them.

I remember getting money for glass when I was a kid. I don't know if they even do that anymore. I miss glass and paper as well; I guess most people would rather have convenient plastic containers rather than survive as a species.

Yeah survival is SO over rated.
What does defeat mean to you?

Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

They do in British Columbia (at least in the Lower Mainland area), there's a recycling depot near my parents place where you can bring in glass, plastic cardboard etc. and get paid for it.

Nope. Well we do from swappa crate bottles (ones about tripple the size of normal bottles) but not from normal ones.

The local beer brands do have a deal though, 1000 bottle tops of their brand and you get a free keg of their beer.

Yeah Earth Day now is just ignored. Why when I was a kid we had events at school and the sunracer-- a solar powered car, would be talked about and all kinds of other crap.

Yeah, these problems were well known and well publicized in the '80s, and twenty years later, our progress is almost non-existent. Pathetic.

Very pathetic, there. May be cliche, but we only have on eplanet. We mess it up, we're dead. Simple as that.
