It's not the most realistic fighter game, but it's the funnest I've ever played.
For those of you who don't know, it's a game series that takes place on Earth in an alternate reality of sorts, nicknamed Strangereal because it has simularties to earth but at the same time has many key differences. Different countries, geography, history, ect. However they often resemble real life nations, and their jets are based off real life planes, ranging from the old F-4 generation to the F-22/F-35/Eurofighter Typhoon generation and a few 'super' planes that only exist there. But with unrealistic amounts of weapons, with some planes having 80+ missles. You also don't suffer blackouts from g-forces and have unlimited afterburner use. Each game depicts you as a pilot during different wars on the planet. Usually the character you play isn't seen, but in Ace Combat 5 you do get to see him, but he isn't specifically refered to as such.
I've personally played Ace Combats 04, 5, and Zero.

I've played Ace Combat X, and plan to get the latest one when I head into town next.
