Cutback in troops announced!

Post by Monroe »

Well sort of...
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080405/ap_ ... pe/us_iraq

I suppose they had the choice between cutting down on overall troops or the time they're there and decided to do the time. This is great news though.

It's especially great for soldiers and Marines who have families. That is, if this plan affects the 'Corps; they weren't explicit about that.

I'll believe it when I see it. The US just promised 10,000 troops for Afghanistan to keep US from buggering off. It'll be interesting whether they get their year down time, didn't work so well for us.

The idea of saying they want to cut back troops is very flawed.

You don't cut back troops to save money or becuase it is getting messy. You with draw when you have got the job done. The situation should dictate the troop level not pbulic opinion or a political election.
What does defeat mean to you?

Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

Democratic governments serve the will of the populace, not vice versa. Besides nothings being accomplished in Iraq except screwing them up even more and if the average American citizen didn't have the brains of a cheese sandwhich and blindly worship the military then this would have ended long before now.

No it doesnt.

It is elected to do what is best for the country even if that option is unpopular.

If it was we would all have a massive tax cut and free... everything.

From Mariam-Webster
Democracy
1 a: government by the people; especially : rule of the majority b: a government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving periodically held free elections
It is elected to do what is best for the country even if that option is unpopular.
Riddle me this, how is Iraq best for the country?

Don't be obtuse, you can't have government services without taxes.

Hmm what happens if you pull out. Well pretty much everything you have accoplished so far goes down the sink.

Iraq explodes in civil war. The rest of the Middle eastern powers wade in. Huge problems with oil supply world prices go up even more causing an already fragile economy to take another hit.

Your international repuation goes to hell. Not only did you screw over a country and kill thousands of innocent people but you also screwed over our oil suppliers. Your current and potential enemies see it as a sign of weakness.

The war in the middle east could very well spread. The Kurds in the north could pull Turkey into the war which could bring other areas in.

Iran takes it as a sign they can pretty much do as they want.

Do you want me to continue cause I can.

While taying in Irag isnt really good for America leaving is worse. And really you made the damn mess clean it up.

Or we could pull out so New Zealand could take its rightful place as the true protector of the free world and step up to be the superpower that it rightfully is, right?

By the way, Kendall, the US is classed as a Federal Republic, not a Democracy.

But a republic is not a democracy. A democracy is rule by the people. A republic is rule by elected representatives. Which means that realisticly, democracy is impossable, exept with very few people (like 5 people alone on an island could have a democracy, but a whole nation could not)

We're a loose democracy at best. Democracy implies the people voting directly on issues and during elections, but here we have Representatives and the Electoral College who do the actual voting.

Their already in the middle of a civil war.
Your international repuation goes to hell. Not only did you screw over a country and kill thousands of innocent people but you also screwed over our oil suppliers. Your current and potential enemies see it as a sign of weakness.
The US has no reputation to speak of anymore, the majority of the world considered them shitbats before this started and now the people who were allies before think even worse of you.
The war in the middle east could very well spread. The Kurds in the north could pull Turkey into the war which could bring other areas in.
That wouldn't have happened if this had started. And the Turks are entitled to curbstomp terrorists all they want if we follow the US logic.
Iran takes it as a sign they can pretty much do as they want.
Here we go, Iran. The new rallying cry of the Republicans. Fully a third of Iraq wants to join Iran anyways. THe only reason Iraq exists in it's current form is because the British Empire smashed three distinct ethnic/religious groups together by force.
Do you want me to continue cause I can.
Why not? I'm amused that there are still people willing to defend this idiocy.
While taying in Irag isnt really good for America leaving is worse. And really you made the damn mess clean it up.
Yes America made the mess and now they can't clean it up. The Iraqi's don't want them there and will just keep going till their gone. And it is going to drive the US into an economic depression.

No kidding, true democracy is impossible. That doesn't mean there aren't varients on it.
