Just curious as to whether anyone else has played it or whether anyone else likes it?

Re: Oblivion
Bought it when it came out. My criticisms of it are similar to any game made for consoles first and PC second; simplistic controls, aims at a lower IQ overall. It is technologically far superior, but in atmosphere and maturity significantly inferior, to its predecessor Morrowind.Reliant121 wrote:Just curious as to whether anyone else has played it or whether anyone else likes it?

Very fun, but burns out much faster than Morrowind. The world is pretty flat and there's little unique you want to go explore.

The main quest definitely blew, and that was true in Morrowind too. The guilds were always a major part of the fun. There were probably about 1.5-2x as many in Morrowind though, some were secret however and you had to find them. I think the difference is that in Morrowind I never bothered with the main questline because I Never felt out of other things to do. In Oblivion after about 4-5 weeks I found myself doing the main quest cause I was bored with the levelled loot and same-same-same "caves" and such everywhere.Reliant121 wrote:I cant be arsed with the main quest...i've nearly completed the Mages Guild quests though.

Oblivion looked like a modern update of Daggerfall (another Elder Scrolls game) to me. God, that game was buggy, but a lot of fun to play (in the mid-nineties, anyways).

Daggerfall was terrific. It's hard to go back and appreciate it now, EVEN as a fan of it at the time it was out... but yeah, it just went so far out there beyond what else was concurrent at that time, that it will always stand out as a classic.Tsukiyumi wrote:Oblivion looked like a modern update of Daggerfall (another Elder Scrolls game) to me. Exactly. I think they just bit off more than they could chew, technologically. Of course, my computers are always held together with duct tape and chewing gum, software-wise, so maybe it was just my system that was a bit buggy.

Also, I really loved making spells on that game. After awhile, I'd pretty much just fly around when I needed to get anywhere. Did they keep that feature with Oblivion?

Yes there is spellmaking but there's child safety protection on it (lame) so to use really strong effects you basically have to cheat and set your intelligence and/or magic skill abilities above the normal 100 cap. So don't play it in console if you want to be able to cheat with the spellmaker, PC is the way to go.Tsukiyumi wrote:Duskofdead wrote:Oh and I almost forgot...

Agreed, by far the Dark Brotherhood had more atmosphere and personality than almost anything else in Oblivion. Most of Oblivion felt like a traipse through the various settings of Disneyland, with everyone on prozac.Cpl Kendall wrote:Play the Dark Brotherhood quest line, it's far superior to the main or expansion pack quests. I love the game and have played it through with most races, I'm hoping for a WH40K version.
