That is becuse they run in circles, on a real race track if you would bump someone you would lose a few places.
Well, that's a given.
NASCARS aren't as fragile as those toys they play with in F1 series
Nascars can't go through corners at 200km/h.
That translates to 125 MPH right? That is so slow it's pathetic. The slowest race speed I've seen(other then those really dull road tracks) is about 135.
It's a full contact sport with drivers trying to control these beasts at 200 MPH in temperatures of over 100 degrees while trying to beat 42 other guys.
And driving in circles. in a straight line an f1 car can go at 400km/h
about 250 MPH right? Big deal, on road coarses they'll never get that fast, not for a good distance. NASCAR has tracks where the cars maintain 200MPH for the entire track, where they go so fast they need to put restrictor plates on them to keep them under control.
Any idiot can drive into things - it's racing, and overtaking, without shunting the opposition that requires skill
Okay, when you say overtaking are we talking, one car passing another? Any idiot can do that. I do it all the time on the highway. It's a given in racing, like passing the ball in soccer or football. At least I thought it was. And precision driving with these machines is much more difficult then those toys in the F1 series.
Driving a race car of any type admittedly requires phenomenal reflexes, trained instincts, and a mind geared toward the strategy of one's particular racing format; but a sport it ain't.
It's a motorsport, it's called a sport, it's the second most popular sport in the USA(Football is the most popular). And if all that stuff doesn't qualify it as a sport then what the heck do you consider a sport?
It's not a full contact sport if you perform it surrounded by 2800+ lbs. of sheet metal
What does it take to make a full contact sport? One of your best drivers dying in what is would otherwise be considered a minor accident? Oh, wait we've done that. Having drivers have to be checked out after a decent sized accident? Oh, wait we've done that. Start the car on fire? Oh, wait we've done that!
And let me tell you, there is nothing more exciting in sports then when a race goes into Overdrive
