Actually our birth rate is only 2.09 per woman. That means we're probably going to start seeing a reduction in population in a while.

And outside of the poorer populations the birth rate gets increasinly abysmal. Though rampant adoption from other countries counters this somewhat.

The reduction in population you predict will actually not be as steep as one would think - actuarial tables are now routinely set up to 105 years of age, and our population is aging rather than shrinking to a certain extent.

Hence the "in a while"

Although with American obesity rates and other health factors it might be faster than we think.

Next time grandfather slow cuts me up because he's looking for his pension books *blamblamblam* no more tyres for YOU!

Yeah, now you're just back to being that continent that America occasionally has to go save. :D

Pfft. This from the country that is best know for turning up late to every war it's fought. Including the Revolution and your Civil War.

The fact of the World Wars was that the European allies decided that since you'd decided to show up late we'd stand back and let you play a leading role in the remainder so you didn't feel left out. :P

Better late than never. Kind of like the Millenium Falcon showing up at the last second. If we hadn't shown up when we did, all of us would be speaking German.

Why? It took a two and a half year sustained build up to get enough dedicated landing craft to cross the Channel, with a far larger industrial base, and one huge cock-up to demonstrate how not to do it. The Germans planned to invade by towing river barges across, then doing shuttle runs to resupply. If Germans had dropped lucky some shooting might have been needed to defeat the landing, but it's more likely that a mild swell would hve sunk the entire invasion.

Actualy, we'd be more likely to have been turned into another part of the USSR than end up speaking German (though it's an unlikely outcome).
Hitler was screwed the moment Operation Barbarosa went into action. An actual invasion of Britain was virtualy impossible at that time, so a large proportion of troops would have been tied up defending the Atlantic Wall even if Britain had never launched a counter attack. The Soviets would then have rolled all the way to Berlin, though likely with massive casualties.
