I wonder, though... is there such a thing as history that isn't worth remembering?

This one?Vic wrote:The History Guy makes for an enjoyable afternoon. I have to reserve some love for Irv, I really enjoyed his take on the Ark story.
There's a History Channel style video about building the ark but for me, Irv's storytelling is far more compelling than a documentary with dramatic music.

That's the one Nutso, I love the very logical idea that you will interpret a story in a way familiar to yourself. If I say boat and you see a coracle, guess what, the Ark is going to be a giant coracle to you.

Indeed. Kind of makes me wonder now, how have other Great Flood Myths described the building of their "Arks"? Did other Mesopotamian versions have a different Ark?Nutso wrote:"And Noah made a big thing to float on water." A baris? A coracle? A raft? A canoe? This may be the best thing ever.

Re: The Youtube video thread!
The Ark part might be the big fib. I haven't researched this at all but I think the Ark is exclusive to the Middle East area. Maybe one guy built a boat with some of his livestock and grain aboard, and when a flood came, he rode it down safely.Vic wrote:Indeed. There's a possibility that a flood scattered the prehistoric ancestor from whom we all are descended, and as they scattered around the globe, they told the tale of a great flood which either just happened, or the gods were angry and sent a flood to punish or cleanse the Earth. There's also the possibility that all cultures independently have experienced a massive flooding of some sort that destroyed their home, and the ones who successfully restarted their culture passed down that tale, with some embellishment.
But this is all speculation. I got nothing concrete.

I have a real soft spot for that show. It was always a bit goofy and budget limited, but they were pretty good at making the most of what they had.

The fun part is the rumor floating around about the Hammerhead fighter:

Short version, a Russian freighter crew was caught taking pictures of the fighter thinking it was a new US fighter
