Cry For Help

Post by Granitehewer »

Hey Everyone
I'm running a series of presentations on ''Agency'', whether we are always the agent of our actions, and am covering topics such as 'Hypnosis', 'Mind Control/Brainwashing', 'Agency', 'Possession', and 'Dreaming'.
I'm attempting to tie in the academic psychology with the lay, and am using examples from star trek to illustrate each topic, can anyone please assist me with appropriate episodes, their title, series number, and any quotes or premises/insights from those episodes please.
I have
TNG 'The Mind's Eye', 'Chain of Command pt2',
VOY- no idea here but seem to remember something about Tom Paris being implicated with murder and forced to continually relive the 'crime'.
DS9- There is one that features Keiko under possession by a Pah Wraith, and another where O'Brian is altered so as to mentally live a long prison term,
any details on these and more, would really be welcomed. Details relating to my topics from any book, tv series or film eg 'A Nightmare on Elm Street', would also be appreciated, and kind of anyone to respond.

That voyager episode is Ex Post Facto. Don't forget the episode of voyager with that telepathic pitcher plant that tried to eat the ship. I forget what that ep is called.

And there were plenty of insane asylum episodes in classic trek.

TOS: "Day of the Dove" might fit as well, as the Klingons and Feds were being psychologically manipulated. There is also the one (don't remember the ep title, sorry) with Redjac.

ditto!
What am finding about some episodes of trek,is that its hard with certain aliens, to differentiate between mind control and certain technologies

"Bliss", I think. There's plenty of "alien possesion/control" episodes in Voyager - "Cathexis" and "Persistence of Vision" spring to mind.

Very early voyager episode, series 1 or 2, where an alien placed everyone into hallucinations and Kes saved the day...

Hey mate!

Barclay in "The Nth Degree" (Season 4)
The crew of Enterprise-D in "The Game" (Season 5)
Troi/Data/O'Brien in "Powerplay" (Season 6)

Lots more, but class is starting. Cheers!

Also, there were 2 episodes, one TOS and one TNG, that featured the Psi2000 virus, which lowered inhibitions and, well...Data and Tasha Yar became very good friends in that episode.
