It wasnt set in the start treck universe, but it used all the same tech.ChakatBlackstar wrote:What the hey? Star Trek has never had that stuff(they really should have better security in some areas though.) Are you sure it was a Star Trek RP that you had a bad experiance with?Jabber Swarky wrote:Ill make a post today, though. Oh, and, by the way.. seeing as he's not actually part of the engineering team, would Jabs be able to get into engineering? I mean, its a merc ship, not a federation one, so i doubt there'll be stuff like colour coded security cards and rank detecting commbadges... and he'd be following Chech anyway >.>
And, umm, its not such a leap of faith to have that stuff.. i mean, if you have a personal commbadge then it doubles as ID as well as a way of communicating.. and everyone had a security pass. If you were too low ranked then your pass wouldnt let you into sensative areas, like the bridge or Engineering.

While that would be a smart system to use, this is Starfleet we're talking about. They ain't exactly the sharpest tool in the box when it comes to security.
As for our ship, I doubt there'll be any need for that sort of thing. There's only about a dozen people on the ship in total, anyway.

"You've all been selected for this mission because you each have a special skill. Professor Hawking, John Leslie, Phil Neville, the Wu-Tang Clan, Usher, the Sugar Puffs Monster and Daniel Day-Lewis! Welcome to Operation MindFuck!"
Actually on a mercenary ship I would expect more need for that sort of thing.
Not like the ship would be a mix of restrictions. But some things would be. Probably valuables though. Engineering and the bridge might be open because in an emergency you don't have time to screw around.
And starfleet did have stuff. Like you had to have high enough clearance to get the door to someone elses quarters to open.
On this ship it shoulds like things are secured through key and verbal codes and you'd just get reprimanded by the captain or Sally if you went where you weren't supposed to.

How long do you think you could keep backstation mercs using their security passes, before they realised that they can be used to jimmy locks open? Heh. I might be being a little rudimentary here, but i think something more along the lines of "Stay out of areas your not supposed to go or Sekhot will remove your right to unbroken kneecaps" would be better =Psunnyside wrote:Actually on a mercenary ship I would expect more need for that sort of thing.

I wrote in that we havea galley. And she also talked about how the Romulan replicator was more efficient.
Generally speaking I get the impression that food replication is just resource expensive (antimater/deuterium/component wear). Though not too bad. Probably like going out to eat today. Starfleet doesn't sweat it. We pay something ridiculous like $60 a plate to feed the soldiers in Iraq. And SF ships are a bit like that.
However when energy is tight (Voyager) they switch over to hydroponics and the like. Mercenary/trader ships are trying to be profitable so pissing away resources is not going to be popular. For example Ferengi ships have cooks (Quark did that for a while).
Of course even more expensive are gourmet foods that can't be replicated at full flavor, but are also expensive to make the old fashioned way. Caviar for example (according to Picard).

Well...I feel that I could do with something to be PRODUCTIVE (Capital cause i edited it)...perhaps I could do a little cookery here and there. Although if you want cardemom your gonna have to cook it yourself.
