He was just a bit before my time (albeit I didn't become a sports fan until my late teens). Though his death was rather untimely, he did at least get to see his induction to the HOF before death. The Kid was an important part of the last Mets World Series, a feat the team isn't going to repeat in the foreseeable future...

Not only an important part of the WS team; but a gregarious, fun-to-watch, and fan-friendly personality... something seen far to rarely anymore.

Always sad that a great man departs, but Valar Morghulis.

I think I should feel more affected about his death than ye average people, since I am from Montreal. Yet, I know about nothing about baseball beyond the game's rules. And Jackie Robinson.

It's funny, because he helped bring some good times to Montreal and even was inducted into the Hall of Fame as an Expo, but almost every baseball fan I meet - even the one who aren't Mets fans - think of him as a Met. I think the '86 Series was just more dramatic and tended to stick in one's mind.
