Question: aren't SEAL teams' identities supposed to be secret?
Kinda hard to buy them a drink if you don't know who they are.

There is only one way of avoiding the war – that is the overthrow of this society. However, as we are too weak for this task, the war is inevitable. -L. Trotsky, 1939

Here's an example to help educate you, Alex:
When my dad-in-law - a leatherneck tanker sgt. by trade - pulled embassy duty in a zone with absolutely zero declared war or current American involvement, he was ridden by all his mates for getting a cushy assignment. Well, it ended up being at the embassy in Beirut in the late '50's, and was the assignment on which he first had to kill... because of the nature of embassy duty at the time, he had to do it with his k-bar (no firearms!) while being shot at, too.
How's that for a "safe" deployment to a non-war zone?

Here is an example: I was in the Navy stationed in an airbase. The only time I went on a ship is if the carrier air group went onboard. In either of these cases whether it is a carrier flight deck or the naval base's flight line (airfield), anyone can get seriously mauled or even death dealing with these machines. The flight deck is much much worse. You get run the risk of a plane turning around with that jet exhaust to blow you over the side of the ship. You always had to have your head on a swivel because you don't know when that exhaust or whatever may injure you. There have been a few cases where I was hanging on for dear life onto a tiedown chain (chain that secures the plane to the deck, because in the ocean the deck isn't that stable) because at near point blank range I have an F-14 jet exhaust right at me and I am litterally in midair with only the chain to keep me from blowing away. Not only that but that exhaust is several hundred degrees. Each time that happened to be I suffered from burns all over my face and hands.alexmann wrote:Not all go to warzones though Seafort, that's my point. He's saying treat ALL the same.
Yes, war assignments are dangerous. Not all assignments are to warzones though.
I am not getting shot at or nothing is exploding near me. I may be in a warzone, but there is a snowball's chance in hell that a terrorist will be able to attack an aircraft carrier with it's escorts.
So shut up.

Where you are deployed or if you're at war anymore or if they make a video game about you so that kids on the internet can call you a hero is meaningless. Everyone signs the same dotted line and swears to give their life in the service of their country. Everyone knows that it may be them who is called on to die for someone else. Same oath, same nation, same cause and the same number of respawns...
So you're god-damned right that I believe in equal treatment.
