Apparently, British citizens can now open petitions which, if provided with enough support and if it is a decent proposal, will be treated in parliament.
Now the big question: Will it work, or rather work as intended?

Re: e-petitions
I believe the website crashed more than once with the sheer volume of traffic it received on its first day.
But I can't throw, I throw like a geek!

This is an open invitation for every wing-nut who wants to hear himself shout.

Re: e-petitions
Yeah pretty much. You will be seeing a bunch of petitions for everything stupid and weird.

Re: e-petitions
Trending petitions seem to focus around capital punishment, petitions against capital punishment and formula 1 broadcasting issues. So far I have seen only one serious petition, being that other dominions outside the United Kingdom should also be able to apply for full membership of the United Kingdom.

Re: e-petitions
The government already runs e petitions, has for years. If I remember right they were introduced under Gordon Brown and amusingly one of the early ones was a call for him to resign.
Give a man a fire, and you keep him warm for a day. SET a man on fire, and you will keep him warm for the rest of his life...

I like this one: Link
Don't listen to idiots signing e-petitions.
Responsible department: Office of the Leader of the House of Commons
We, the people, are idiots. Please, for pity's sake, ignore us more often.

I'm glad to see that Biggus Dickus and Seymour will begin to have a greater influence on the government.
