Pakistani police gun down unarmed man

Post by Graham Kennedy »

BBC Report
The video from Karachi, which has been broadcast widely on Pakistani television, is disturbing to watch.

It shows a young man in a black t-shirt being dragged by his hair in a public park by a man in plain clothes.

He is pushed towards a group of Sindh Rangers, a paramilitary force, who are in uniform and armed. The young man, who does not appear to be armed, pleads for his life as one of the Rangers points a gun at his neck.

A little later, a Ranger shoots him twice at close range, hitting him in the thigh. The young man is seen writhing on the ground, bleeding heavily and begging for help.

The paramilitaries remain close to the injured man but do nothing to help him. He died from his injuries.

The Rangers have since said that the young man had been caught trying to rob someone. His family denies this.
I thought about whether to post the link. In the end, I think it needs to be seen.

WARNING : THIS IS A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THE SHOOTING AND AFTERMATH

The very face of extremism. I see precious little difference between this and the famous photo of the Viet Cong shooting a civilian refugee from Viet Nam.

Robbery or not, how do you shoot and kill a man - and watching a man bleed out is the same as shooting to kill - who not only has surrendered, but is begging for his life? Well, here we are folks - Pakistan has officially gone over to institutional vigilantism.

If these guys can shoot and unarmed man who is begging for his life and then casually stand around while he bleeds to death, you have to wonder what a typical days "law enforcement" must be like for them and the people they encounter.

And so they took it upon themselves to just kill him? I'll admit I don't know what kind of justice system Pakistan uses, but how does this even pretend to justify casually executing someone in as sloppy and cruel a manner as possible?

I just can't wrap my mind around being that disregarding to human life. Just can not.

Because they didn't try to kill us. You don't think we'd actually concern ourselves with their internal policies, no matter how barbaric, do you?

The Taliban didn't attack us either. They harbored those that did which... is a lot like Pakistan with recent revelations.

Come on, you should know by now that the role which the Taliban played is irrelevant. We don't concern ourselves with trivialities like facts.

Sadly, this sort of barbarism is still quite common in the poorer parts of the world. Take the US and strip away our modern conveniences and we'd probably start to look less 'civilized' also. This is human nature: animal in more than just biological classification.

The Taliban were in the wrong place at the wrong time, and Pakistan put on a display in being a "needed" ally of convenience in the area. We have no true allies out there. It really was quite an arbitrary distinction, and it's worth noting that our own "civilized" leaders conveniently ignored any hints of impropriety since it was politically expedient.
"If you can't take a little bloody nose, maybe you ought to go back home and crawl under your bed. It's not safe out here. It's wonderous, with treasures to satiate desires both subtle and gross... but it's not for the timid." Q, Q Who

Exactly! This incident is, I'm almost positive, unique only insofar as it was caught on film.

Pah! You only think that way because you have a solid grounding in reality. Reality has a well known liberal BIAS.
