I think Christchurch is going to follow in New Orleans steps and be mostly a right off, almost every building in town is damaged. I dont think NZ has the economy to deal with this right now, 2nd world here we come!

It's little of a laughing matter. Not only is the entire country in a state of emergency as of now, the cathedral is in shambles as well.

A bit of a mess, but I've always been of the opinion that you need to laugh in a situation like this, and ironically the buildings most damaged in the city of Christchurch were indeed the Churches.

What a shame. Is this going to get the full-blown international bright young thing treatment, or will it get half-assed treatment because it's not Auckland?

We dont know yet, apparently money is no issue so we hope it will get restored to its historic look, Christchurch was famous for being an old english style city with stone facades ect. But then again thats what cause a lot of the problems in the quake. So it might just get build cheaply and quickly.

The issue is the infrasttucture is totoally fucked in the whole city, literally the ground turned to liquid and rolled so every pipe is broken. Try laying new pipes in a city that covers 200 square KM.

Yeah everyone is fine, dont even know anyone who knows anyone really. A few relatives lost their houses though.

Yeah and when I say lost their houses its more like the house has slipped off its foundations or maybe lost a wall or fire damage, so they can still get most of their stuff out.
