Fun is now officially disallowed during sporting events
The irreverent and usually humorous Stanford U. marching band was barred from performing during last night's Orange Bowl because... well, I guess because we have become too obsessed with political correctness to appreciate fun in our entertainment. While I think their bit about the Irish Potato Famine in a previous year may have gone too far, it was one of the great moments in marching band history when they played in Giants Stadium during its inaugural year and had a set that spelled "Hoffa" with an arrow pointing to one of the end zones.

Exactly. Upsetting LeBron James isn't nearly the same thing as making an offensive stereotype about a whole group of people. And not having the Stanford band perform during a Stanford game - the Orange Bowl, no less - is almost as bad as having the Grambling-Southern game without bands.Tyyr wrote:f**k all this PC bullshit.

Err... check your link again. Apparently they weren't banned, they weren't scheduled to play in the first place. Apparently the only BS is the statement that they were banned.Mikey wrote:The irreverent and usually humorous Stanford U. marching band was barred from performing during last night's Orange Bowl because... well, I guess because we have become too obsessed with political correctness to appreciate fun in our entertainment. Well, I beg your pardon. Obviously, as you can see by the presence of the retraction, the original report had it as Stanford being banned from playing a halftime show.IanKennedy wrote:Err... check your link again. I don't blame the internet. As always, there's human error at the root of the problem.
