Agreed. This is post-9/11. Only killing a dozen people at a time doesn't cut it any more. Don't forget that RIRA, probably the most dangerous bunch around at the moment, are the lot responsible for the Omagh bomb - the worst single incident of the Troubles.

There were a shedload of IRAs around decades ago - the Provos, the Official IRA and CIRA at the very least.

The IRA is probably the most frequently split terrorist group in history.

At the moment there's the Provisional IRA, the Real IRA and the Continuity IRA. Then there are a handful of other groups that split from the CIRA within the last decade or so. Then there's the INLA (who originaly split from the Official IRA, which ceased to exist in the 70's), and a few groups that split off from them as well.

And that's just on the Republican side. Northern Ireland is just one big tangled web of different terrorist groups.
