To anyone who has an ipad?
My mother is curious, and she wants to get a tablet of some form. At the moment, win7 tablets are a while away or they are virtually unusable, so we're looking at an iPad.
but there is one thing she absolutely has to be able to do if she wants to spend on it instead of getting a small netbook, and thats edit excel documents.
How does iWork's Numbers stack up to using excel documents?

Re: To anyone who has an ipad?
Depends on what she needs to edit on them, it has a decent number of algorithms that work, but also there are actual excel editing programs (I have one on mine) that if you know how to use Excel, you will be able to work with it. Numbers is decent, but is basically just make things pretty, however there are other apps that are much better for editing excel documents.

Whats the excel program called? we dont particularly care for cost, as long as we can edit excel documents AND export them back to a computer using itunes file sharing.
Come to think of it, how does file sharing do?
basically, my mum manages all her money and all family money on excel. she only uses adds minus formulae as far as I know, so its not mega complex. But it would be good to be able to export in an excel format. OR at least back up the file to our mac.

The one I use is called documents to go. It does word, excel, and I believe views powerpoint files. And filesharing is easy, you go to the apps tab of the iPad and just drag files to the iPad, as well as that, you can email them to yourself and open them from inside the email app.

Can you copy them over to mac from an ipad?
Re: To anyone who has an ipad?
Yup, file sharing works that way too, you just go in and click on the apps tab and drag the files onto the mac.

Right, my mother gives her greatest thanks.
I can't believe I'm giving in to appledom. But I do think the iPad floors the win7 competition so far. Plus android tablets i dont think will work that great.

The Galaxy S tablet doesn't look bad. But document editing is nowhere near as good. Plus, my mum prefers apple for larger things but android for mobiles.
Re: To anyone who has an ipad?
That's fair, and the Galaxy S tablet seems to be the only thing with higher than 1.6 android build, which is crap because they are now on 2.2 and nearing a 3.0 beta build for a good deal of the phones out now.
