Re: Windows 7
Well...we theorize that if we removed the pre-partitioned harddrive from the HP (dad's done it loads of times) and install a completely clean one into it, then windows 7 should work. It's just the cost of another harddrive and windows 7 itself that we have to work on.

Re: Windows 7
Why not just use a partition editor to delete all partitions from the existing HDD, thus rendering it blank in the view of the Win 7 disk? There are good some free ones out there, including (Linux-based) GParted Live. It won't install Linux, only run isolinux from the live CD and start the partition editor.Reliant121 wrote:Well...we theorize that if we removed the pre-partitioned harddrive from the HP (dad's done it loads of times) and install a completely clean one into it, then windows 7 should work. Yeah, that's what we had to do, it had the drivers, just needed to be repartitioned... But it does work, So MS did their work well this time around...

Re: Windows 7
Very odd the Windows XP installer would allow me to re-partition a hard disk right from the setup program no other software required.

Re: Windows 7
I had two HP laptops that I upgraded. The first one had 240 GB in two 120 GB drives. The second one I removed and replaced with a 320 GB drive. Of course after I put everything on the old one on a external. The second one didn't come with a second hard drive but has the slot for it. I added a 500 GB hard drive for it after doing some internet searching for the bracket. Now it has 1 TB. I remember though I spent a good amount of time each time trying to figure out how to format and partition the drive though.
Actually I have no idea why I wrote that...
Oh and I had no problem upgrading to Windows 7, with a HP dv7-1285 laptop.

Ugh you have A Pavillion. I am jealous.
Well, it seems that my plans to upgrade to windows 7 have been put on hold. My course means I'm going to need photoshop and fast, so thats my priority.

Re: Windows 7
I'm still quite happy with my Kubuntu Linux OS, but having just gotten my first look at Windows 7 at the shop yesterday I came away favorably impressed. I did two installs, both of which went smoothly, and my impression was that 7 is quicker and more responsive than Vista on similar hardware, and just felt smoother. The interface was easy to adjust to and offered some interesting features, and it seemed that some processes were done faster in 7 than would be done in Vista. I wouldn't mind using such a system.
...not that I'll be switching back to Windows anytime soon.![Wink ](./images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)

I've supposedly got a free upgrade to 7 for my laptop. So far reviews have been positive so I'm probably going to go ahead with it.

Re: Windows 7
I gotta look at the paper work on it. Free time has not been my forte lately.
Re: Windows 7
I have it installed on my system dual boot with Vista. I've played with it and like it, but I can't get it to play nice with my 24" external monitor. I don't think its a Windows 7 issue, the latest Vista drivers throw up the same problem. I keep meaning to go back and get it working but whenever I have the spare time I don't want to be without my laptop for so long.

Re: Windows 7
I'm currently installing it on my laptop. Nice thing about work is I can just let it run and not be inconvenienced by the process and I'm usually right beside it if anything goes wrong.

Re: Windows 7
Nothing like a hung OS install to make you nervous. Apparently something about the "Expanding Windows files" step can hang up on people. Hung up on me long enough to get my attention and send me scurrying off for a quick search to see if anyone else had this happen to them. Apparently it has and the solution is to just wait it out. Sure enough, just as I was getting confident in waiting it out I look over and it had started moving again.
