This forum is soooo educational. :takecover:

I think the Summer Olympic games could use a little tweaking in terms of trying to select or tailor events to be more interesting for spectators. For example I enjoy and respect shooting. But watching plain target shooting? I don't think so.

That said I do enjoy many of the Olympic sports that get shown on TV and will usually have the Olympics on in the background while I'm home. And I'll usually watch some highlights from a couple sports like fencing or the other martial arts.

Also they've added BMX, that might be interesting.

Hmmmmm I wonder if the Olympics just aren't as fun if you aren't from one of the countries that can put forward serious contenders in interesting games.

I can only watch so many races where all they do is run little laps around the same damn track. "Ohh, the 1,000 finished and its time for the 5,000? DRAMA!" Seriously, if you watch them run one lap you just got the gist of half the summer games.

What time of the year is carnival in Rio?

Bugger. Here I was hoping some of the gymnasts and swimmers might get wild and we'd get some fun headlines.

Really? Shouldn't it be in February? I thought Carnaval was a pre-Lenten celebration.

Yeah, here. It's the Brazilian Mardi Gras.

Yep. The first entry there eve says "before Lent." Granted, that's autumn in Brazil, but Lent is Lent.

The right is actually cheering that Obama failed to get Chicago's bid for the Olympics passed. That's right, conservatives were actually rooting against America.

Common sense? SDN's been cheering the result as well, and that place isn't exactly a Republican Party stronghold.

No joke, there were some news articles during the Beijing Olympics about how the Olympic Village was pretty much a gigantic sex fest.

Well think about it, you put a couple thousand fit and highly active 16-30 year olds in a small area where they'll never see most of those people again and no one from their home country will know what they did. What do you think's gonna happen?
