Chicago didnt have a hope in hell from what I have heard. The fact that it got this far is a testament to how much money was passed under the table up to now.

Madrid didn't have a shot either, since they were hosted in Spain relatively recently.

I'm interested to see what Brazil will do, though - to present to an international stage, the amount of crap in Rio that will have to be swept under the rug will make Beijing look like the Emerald friggin' City. They might as well have voted to host the games in Mos Eisley.

Aye, it'll be interesting to see how it goes.

I've heard that American cities pretty much shouldn't bother.

They ought to be thankful, the Olympics are nothing but a giant pit to throw money into.

Indeed. To be honest I couldn't care less about them. The only thing I ever watch is the opening ceremony.

I enjoy watching the Olympics. A fun way to kill a few weeks every 4 years.

And I believe Sydney made money when they hosted the olympics, its only countries like China that lose money and that because they have to fix so much shit up to host them. They mainly do it for the press.

Canadian cities have lost money with every one save Calgary, and only because the where located in an area that allowed them to continue to be the training centre for the Winter Games for Canada's teams.

You factor in the billion + dollars that security for Vancouver is expected to cost, there will be no profit. In fact development for the games has drastically lowered the cities credit score.

Last time I was interested in the Olympics, sadly, was the 1992 ones and the 'Dream Team'.

I hear America is a nice choice because of amount of money any American Olympic game is guarantied to bring. Also its a good way to get jobs. While I secretly agree Rio deserved it more its too bad Chicago didn't get it.
How many Minbari does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
None. They always surrender right before they finish the job and never tell you why.

Every one who goes to Rio is gonna have to hire bodyguards to keep from being kidnapped." F*CK Rio" I say.
