Like an all-expenses paid trip to the bottom of the stairs?
Any fall that ends in the skull cracking or neck breaking will work. The stairs are just the best known.

In a home invasion scenario? Why should you? The best they can still do is call the police so police response times still dictate how effective they are. If someone breaks into your house truly intending to do you harm they will typically have more than enough time to do so before the cops even start their cars and head towards your house.

Alarms are fine for taking care of things when you aren't around, better than nothing, but they aren't any kind of real protection from someone who's already decided to break into your home.

No trees were killed in transmission of this message. However, some electrons were mildly inconvenienced.

That was exactly her point.

The problem with this situation for me is that all my valuable stuff is in the basement, and the stairs leading down there go through the bedroom, so anyone breaking into my house to steal anything has to come down where I'm sleeping. And if I ever wake up to find some strange person coming into my bedroom, I'm not about to wait and see what he wants, I'm going to put him down hard.
