Why? They wasted him as it was.

I got the high gloss luster

Exactly. They should have done something with more substance with him.

They look like Phyllis Diller,
and walk like Frankenstein.

The scenes with him and Sisko in the runabout on the way to the missile base were some of my favourite of the series. There was some great interplay between the two characters. I'd have liked to have seen them join up again to take on the Cardassians - Sisko needing Eddingtons help, and Eddington taking on the Cardassians for revenge, whilst still blaming Sisko for the slaughter of the Maquis.

I empathize with the Maquis and their cause, if not their methods. They were treated by the Federation as little more than pawns in an intergalactic political chess game, and ended up being handed over to an oppressive government as part of a bargaining chip. Of course, I never really sympathized with Eddington himself, but he did make for a rather nifty villain for a couple of episodes.

As an aside, I can't believe that Sisko got away with gassing an entire planet. That kind of conduct should have earned him a life sentence in a Federation penal colony somewhere rather cold. It boggles my mind that anyone could condone that kind of atrocity. I know DS9 was always the black sheep of Trek, and was always darker than any other series, but isn't the Federation supposed to be an open, democratic society committed to respecting human rights and all that? It would have been nice if at least one of the crew of the Defiant objected in some way instead of just looking at Sisko funny for a few seconds like they did.

Ahhh, but that's what made it a cut above. Sisko and his dual standards, another case in point being 'In the pale moonlight'. Doing what he needed to do in order to get the job done, morally 'questionable' or not :)

Oh it made it a good episode but it fails once you start thinking about it. The US Iraqi's executed several people for gassing the Kurds after the Gulf War and the Allies executed a large number of German officers for similar conduct in WWII but Sisko got a free pass for gassing an entire planet because of...quantum.

He should be spending the rest of his days breaking large rocks into small rocks but because the writers didn't think things through; free pass.

That DS9's writing was largely overseen by RDM has not escaped my notice, the guy's become quite the king of hack writing.

I think the difference between Sisko's actions during "In the Pale Moonlight", was that in that episode his actions were both covert and authorised. Having a Federation Captain gas a whole Maquis planet and then let him off is not exactly going to help smooth relations over with the Maquis.

As far as 'In the pale moonlight' is concerned, how do you know it was SF authorised? For all we know, the orders could have been fake.

If I remember correctly, Sisko just made the planet uninhabitable for HUMAN life. Cardassians were fine to live there....and he was trying to bounce the Maquis. So, since he didn't kill anybody, that may have been the reason for his pass.

Sisko said in his log it was. Halfway through the episode he said that he presented his plan to Starfleet Command and they gave it their blessing.

So he just forced them to relocate...that's not a hell of a lot better man. In fact nations today get held in complete contempt for doing it and still get slagged for having done it in the past. Picard mutinied over it in fact.

Which is why Picard would have been useless in the Dominion War.
