The same thought crossed my mind.

Anyhoo, yes, the dude does deserve much praise for what he's done to popularize science, for his own work (even if his achievements are sometimes overstated) and for the grace and dignity with which he's handled his condition.

What? An American get the award that he has done? As far as I'm aware no American has done what he has done.

It was a joke :p

But the name Franklin and Edison and Einstein all come to mind as brilliant American scientists / inventors (Even if they were born in another country). And Miko Kaku is a pretty brilliant scientist too. Give him a few more years and he might discover something big.

None. They always surrender right before they finish the job and never tell you why.

Sure, but I think they're work on cosmology doesn't quite tip that of Stephen Hawking. Now, as for Einstein he was German, not American.

Yes, prior to WW2 he moved to the US.

I think we can claim Dyson, too. Not sure if he's ever become an American citizen, but he's been ex-pat from England for decades.

Michio Kaku will turn out to be the next Carl Sagan. He can explain physics in laymans terms just as well as Sagan did. Mr. Hawking deserves this award no matter where he comes from.
