Writer's Guild strike...

Post by Tsukiyumi »

I'm rather pissed about this. The studios are being amazingly greedy, refusing any share of internet distribution sales at all, and no change to the current 0.3% residuals on DVD sales. 0.3%!!! The writers only want a 2.5% share of the internet sales; they went so far as to remove their DVD requests from the table to try and avoid a strike.

Of course, the executives don't care - they each make more money in a year than the entire 12,000 WGA members would make if the increases were met...

So, my favorite network shows like Heroes, Lost, Supernatural, 24, and Prison Break are all up in the air; Heroes may actually end their season early because of this disgusting display of greed by the studios.

I'm starting to think the WGA and actors should pool their money and create their own studios...

I'm right behind the writers on this one. Without them, there is no film. Without them, there is no money.

Shows on cable are affected as well. Battlestar Galactica may finish without an ending, as well as a number of others on Sci-Fi Channel (SG Atlantis is done filming their season, and the writers are canadian, so it should be safe).

The simple fact that this situation is caused by disgustingly blatant greed is what irks me so much. The studios have already tried to hire writers from the Writer's Guild of Great Britain - the brits basically gave them the finger (much appreciated, chaps).
