I'm going to assume that this means we won't be required to get health care, then?

What in hell is going on? This is becoming surreal.

TYT is so dead on. There's a few more of their videos on the latest episode part that tie in also. Democrats need some fucking balls.Tsukiyumi wrote:What in hell is going on? This is becoming surreal.

Mind posting a synopsis for those of us who can't access youtube at the moment?
Re: Public Option Defeated?
The Death Panel concern has pushed the democrats into abandoning the end of life counseling that was in the plan. So now when you're facing the end of your life you'll do so alone and without any answers. Brilliant work right.Tyyr wrote:Mind posting a synopsis for those of us who can't access youtube at the moment?
The Public option might go as the rumor says if the health insurance industries agree to pay a lot to the government. Like 150 billion. And put a cap in their profits at 8% (though that bit might get tossed). Current profits are up to 15%.

Re: Public Option Defeated?
...wha? So old people don't have families, doctors, friends, access to the internet, tv, books, or anything else? The end of life counseling provision was that the government would pick up the bill once every five years or yearly if you have a serious condition* to go to someone specifically about those issues. I'm not seeing a once every half decade or yearly visit to a doctor as doing so with a lot of answers or not alone. This might be incorrectly portrayed by right wing nuts, but I think you're almost going as far the other way with it.Monroe wrote:The Death Panel concern has pushed the democrats into abandoning the end of life counseling that was in the plan. Rumor also said the government was going to make senior citizens justify their right to keep living in front of governmental Death Panels. The Public option might go as the rumor says if the health insurance industries agree to pay a lot to the government. Re: Public Option Defeated?
I emailed my senator:
No clue if she'll read it but hey I didn't want only right-winged nuts to email her. I encourage everyone too.Dear Senator McCaskill,
I'm on my last semester of college and am about to move out into the work force without any health coverage. Millions of Americans like me are desperately needing the public option. While the right screams about death panels and health care not being a guarantied privilege the rest of the world is laughing at us for being the only country that doesn't have universal health care.
Please keep fighting the good fight for health care reform that includes the Public Option. It simply isn't reform without the Public Option in the bill as I believe you know. Lobbyists are playing dirty, by muscling in their goons to destroy this reform, so I wanted you to know that us young adults need this bill. That stage of life during or right after college without any health care is scary for any young adult before they can get a job. Having a social safety net is one of the hallmarks of an industrialized country that we should strive to prefect.
Thank you for listening to my concern. While this might be an issue causing heavy political turmoil I can promise that as a voter who is about to lose his parent's coverage once I graduate college I will, and many other voters like me, remember who stands up for the Public Option and who doesn't. Thank you.
-Ben Monroe

Don't worry, this right wing nut's already e-mailed all my congressional representatives.

I like TYT too, but if you don't think they're highly biased you have discovered some new realm beyond having drunk the Kool Aid. Like I said in the post you just quoted, they are biased - toward reality. I'm sure if the Republican party wasn't acting like a bunch of radical, elitist, laissez-faire loonies, they'd report accordingly. They act outraged about Republican antics because the Republicans' recent antics are outrageous.sunnyside wrote:I like TYT too, but if you don't think they're highly biased you have discovered some new realm beyond having drunk the Kool Aid. Watch the one about the Public Option; he goes off on the Democrats just as hard.

Re: Public Option Defeated?
They aren't biased towards democrats. They're past Democrats. I believe he said something about a "Progressive" party in that bit? On their website they say they're "progressive" though that terms gets hijacked a lot.
As for the rest. I had a rather interesting discussion with a Chinese lady. Try as I might I couldn't convince her that it wasn't all of western media that was biased. She firmly believed they were all unfair, and that Buddists and Falun Gong members were horrible people who are a threat to themselves and everyone around.
Anyway TYT doesn't seem to be in the misinformation business, which I appreciate. Their bias is more of along the lines of how Russian/Iranian state news agencies bias things. They don't lie exactly. They just post every little good thing about Russia/Iran and those in the governement, and every bad thing the US might ever do or seem to do. Or, as they often do, just present their side of an argument. Like if you could talk about social liberalism without any of us chirping in. Nothing false, and always fun to watch, but not the full picture.
Like when they talk about Iran

Good segment. Fun to watch. But ignores that Iran is currently attacking Isreal via Hezbollah (and I think most would agree that they'd like to do more), and you know, the whole nuke business. I'm not trying to start up that issue. But the point is that's how the show operates. You're always getting half of the story, it's just the half you want.

He goes throuh the whole thing talking about how the public option will "compete" with the private ones. Now seperate from whether you think it's the right thing to do. Even in the plan the democrats admit their plan is going to cost money that 1.5 trillion dollars and it's supposed to absorb parts of various existing expensive government health assistance programs for the poor etc. That's what private industry likely won't be able to compete with, because they can't run at a perpetual massive financial loss.
The worry being companies and indaviduals will switch to the public option, meaning costs beyond what the government is budgeting for (because the government is losing money on the policies), and the whole issue where then people get forced out of their existing healthcare options.
Again, you can say that's all great, but the point is that isn't what he's going to talk about.

Yeah, I suppose I might be a little biased myself, seeing as I am one of those uninsured people they keep referring to as statistics.
Not like I really need medical care for my blown ACLs, bleeding ulcers or wisdom teeth, right? I wouldn't want to mildly inconvenience anyone.
