If you can find it, I'd love to read it. Anyways, it's possible the guy had PTSD but it's also possible that I have a tail. If something comes out later that shows he did have it, then I have no problem publicly stating that I was wrong. The available facts certainly don't trigger my "PTSDdar" but I've been wrong before.Nickswitz wrote:
I agree with that, however, I am thinking it based on an article I read a few years back about PTSD causing a lot of friendly fire after the battles, and this reminded me of it. That said, I don't have that article available.

I will try and find it. It was very very interesting... I do believe tthat you are correct, however, PTSD may have caused this. Doubtfully because of the facts at hand, but it was just a thought.

Perhaps the article was actually talking about CSR, which usually leads to PTSD if untreated. It can cause some odd effects, I've never heard of it causing fratricide before but then apparently PTSD caused a Vet to become a paedophile...so...uh...yeah.Nickswitz wrote:I will try and find it. Ghetto edit: I'd rather have this guy have had PTSD then just be a tard, it makes the rest of us look bad, yeah but it also means that he isn't fully responsible. That the military should never have deployed him, even though I know they are sending guys over with it.

Re: CF Reservist Shot Tentmate In "Self Defense"
The lack of tours leads me to doubt that PTSD was involved. It's possible that a traumatic event in the dude's personal history could have led to PTSD, but then it wouldn't manifest itself through a combat situation delusion.
Lemme tell you, though - when it does, it's friggin' scary. I worked with a 'Nam vet once when I managed record stores; this guy was having a bitch of a day - normal stuff, kids, wife, etc. - and then while I'm in the back eating my lunch, someone comes running in telling me that Jeff's under the browser (one of those big CD racks) screaming something. Turns out he was yelling in Vietnamese, and thought that one of the customers in the DVD aisle was a VC.

Tsu: That sounds quite frightening to be in a situation like that, just wondering, how did you handle it?
Kendall:It may be CSR, it was one of those acronyms, I don't remember which though...
How did it cause someone to become a pedophile? That doesn't make the least bit of sense...

If by "Tsu" you mean "Mikey," then yes - it was frightening. Especially because I knew for a fact that the guy knew six ways to kill a man without a weapon. I don't know what prompted to do the what I did, but I started to call his name loudly before approaching him. Don't want to sneak up on a dude in live fire mode. I cam around to approach him from in front and finally just started talking to him - reminding him who I was, where he was, and having the staff clear everyone from around him so that there were no possible "threats" in his immediate area.Nickswitz wrote:Tsu: That sounds quite frightening to be in a situation like that, just wondering, how did you handle it?
@ Kendall - I don't know why this just occurred to me, but why did these guys have pistols at all? Is that SOP in the CF? IIRC, pistols in the US Army are pretty much reserved for officers and for folks who couldn't reasonably carry a carbine or rifle - drivers, tankers, etc. Joe NCO Footslogger carries his M4 and rounds.

Ugh...that's the subject of a lot of discussion amongst us Vets. Apparently this fellow was on an early tour in Yugoslavia and witnessed some horrific things in regards to the local children and he developed PTSD. So obviously one of his triggers was kids and a couple of years ago he was caught molesting a neighbours kid. How the trigger lead to molestation has never been really explained, he was convicted and the judge basically said it was a BS excuse but he won on appeal, last I heard he was in a mental institution in Winnipeg.Nickswitz wrote:

I never bought it personally. I've done some...horrible things when triggered but I was always aware, however distantly of what was happening. I don't buy his story just because you usually act to protect yourself or others from perceived danger. I have no idea what the hell he was trying to do there, it doesn't fit into the "fight reflex being stuck on" that is the typical symptom.
I'm not sure, my feeling is they were employed as drivers in some capacity. Where your rifle would be racked in the vehicle or it would be awkward to employ it. Drivers usually carry one and guys have been known to tape them to the underside of the drivers hatch coaming in APC's so they can get them easily.@ Kendall - I don't know why this just occurred to me, but why did these guys have pistols at all? The CF only has a relatively few number of pistols, the Browning those guys had was worn out in my time and "mature" in my Dad's, so they tend to be issued sparingly.

Wow, that must have been very frightening, at least you were level headed to do that.
Yeah, I'm with the judge there that it's a BS excuse trying to get out of doing the time.Cpl Kendall wrote:Nickswitz wrote: How did it cause someone to become a pedophile? That doesn't make the least bit of sense...
