Exactly. Tyyr's point wasn't that the French should bow and scrape before us mighty Americans, just that they shouldn't be assholes... to anybody.

Even if they accomplished sweet F. A., I'd be grateful for the attempt. I guess I should have added, "Within the confines of this discussion," or "Using Teaos' own yardstick," or something like that.

Funny. We say the same thing, only we're facing Washington, D.C. when we say it.

Am I the only person here who thinks not getting spit on, or not having some be a total s******d to you, or having a fight picked with you for no reason doesn't count as being treated nice but only as common courtesy?
Uh, care to point out where I said otherwise? I was talking about the notion that France (or, indeed, any country) "owes" the US due to what happened 60 odd years ago. I'm perfectly with you when you say the French are arrogant jackasses.

Okay, I get that everyone here wants to try and be civil and Teaos is trying to earn French citizenship. But I don't give a shit was people want.

I always have and always will hate the french. A bunch of subhuman assholes as far as I care. My grandfather was a WWII vet, he fought in North Africa, then Normandy, then all the way to the Rhine. The rare times he ever talked about combat, he could hold back tears thinking about his friends and family who all died in that war. He never wanted anything in return for it. He did what he thought was right along with 15 million other Americans. Half a million of them would die doing such. The least you could do is remember that the French could do is remember they didn't win the fucking war on their own. I think of that and then think of how the French treat everyone, not just the Americans. I'd like nothing more then to have left the French on their own against the Germans.

The only thing I could be construed as believing the French "owe" us is to not be shitheads, which by virtue of being humans they pretty much owe to everyone and in most cases fail to deliver on.

Yeah, so did mine and probably relatives of everyone else on here. I've never heard the French claim they won the war on their own, that said it would be great if they weren't arrogant asses. I'd also love to crap out gold bars. For whatever reason, they have a cultural problem with assholerly. You only have to look at how they treat immigrants to know that.

Its booze and strippers to meet the forum guidelines. Just beer doesn't cut it. /sagenod
How many Minbari does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
None. They always surrender right before they finish the job and never tell you why.

I'm with you on that alright. Some simple politeness wouldn't go astray.

My point was and is that the French are shit heads. But that they shouldnt be nice to you because of the war, they should be nice because it is the decent thing to do. As many other pointed out, everyone helped everyone out. No one owes anyone anything due to war. But everyone does owe everyone else the right to no be cunts... apparently the French didnt get the memo.

Yeah, that's the same point I was trying to make.

One of the things i dislike most is Sarkozy's insistance that muslim women may not follow, and wear the necessary clothing of, Hijab. Fair enough, some people dislike islam as a whole (i'm not exactly a great friend of it) however, I think people should be allowed to wear a symbol of their religion regardless of what it is. Why is it other religions may wear their garments, but muslims may not in France?

The only time I have an issue with the head scarfs is when they wanna wear them in a photo ID picture... yeah, kind of against the point there love.

Bingo. So long as they remove them for ID pictures or when they have to be identified why can't they wear them?

It depends on the type of scarf. I imagine you're thinking of the Chador which is the veil that covers the face. That isnt strictly the rules, many wear a scalf that covers their head but leaves the face and sometimes part of their head open.
