It would be glorious, if done properly. I'm thinking Edward Norton as Ben Richards. He fits the story's description almost perfectly, and I can see him getting more and more ruthless as the movie progresses, leading up to the shocking (especially now) ending.

Rambo 2 and 3 (not sure the last one belongs here, it was better then number 2 and 3), Cobra, Rocky 2-4 (can't like the 5th one), Lock-Up, Cliffhanger.
Agree with almost the all of the above. Did not like the 5th Rocky. But I am not entirely sure you can really hate to admit that you like the Rocky movies. Yeah, there are some people who would say that Rock 2 was basically a repeat of Rocky, and the third and fourth are just milking the franchise. But they do have theat general mass appeal.

Did not like Cliffhanger that much, but then again I have seen that movie way too many times.

I liked most of the Schwarzenegger movies.

I suppose new scripts would be too much to hope for.

OK, I've always gotten you before, but this sense of humor is beyond me. Really? I and II were great films; III and IV were decent boxing-specific films; and Rocky Balboa did better than I expected. V was the purest form of suck.

Whoops. I actually forgot V existed. I meant Rocky Balboa.

To be honest I was never that interested in any of the Rocky films.

I and (to a lesser extent) II were excellent films, which just happened to be set in the milieu of boxing. The subsequent pictures were more pictures about boxing.

Yeah. I happened to go through all the Rocky films a couple of months back. I watched V only once before that and forgot how much it sucked. Now I remember.

EDIT: One thing I noticed is that Rocky movies have the iconic music. Eye of the Tiger, Rocky theme, and so forth. V did not have that.

No, I literally forgot it existed. My brain went straight from IV to Rocky Balboa.

Ah!
In that case, we are completely in agreement.
But then, 1 and 6 aren't guilty pleasures, they're actually good movies... :P

Yeah, that's why I was confused about it being listed here.

I absolutely love Rocky 4. It's so gloriously over the top!

Favourite moment is not long after the fight starts, and Rocky cuts the Russian. "You see? You see! He's not a machine! He's a MAN!"
Give a man a fire, and you keep him warm for a day. SET a man on fire, and you will keep him warm for the rest of his life...

Watched this again last night. Some may consider it hackneyed or trite, but I love The Pope of Greenwich Village. Great performances by Rourke, Roberts, and Ward; and I love how Charlie "won" at the end, only to still have to run.
