There is an article in the newspaper today about Riverside, Iowa, hoping to attract tourism as the birthplace of Kirk. Now I have heard of this town before but... has anyone told them that in ST:XI Kirk is born in a shuttle? They're gonna be so pissed. Also, from what we see, it doesn't look like this Kirk had a very happy childhood in Iowa.

Does anyone know if Kirk's birthplace is canonical? I ask because in ST:XI, his birth occurs not long after Nero arrives, altering the timeline. Presumably his father and pregnant mother would have been aboard the USS Kelvin in the original timeline too. Nero's attack could have made his mother go into labour prematurely, I suppose. In the original timeline they could've just strolled back to Earth and arrived in Iowa in plenty of time.

These are the sorts of things which play on my mind on public transport in the mornings.

I know you've probably not seen the film enough times to be able to remember every detail but would you say, on any level you could draw any sort of relationship from ENT at all? Maybe not directly, like a character saying "Yes, in 2152 when Captain Archer was commanding the NX01 etc etc" but an open statement that if you wanted to, you could read ENT canon in it? Having said that though, I get the impression that it's all based on a variation of original TOS canon and nothing else...

Well I don't know about that but I have canon evidence that his full birth name is James R Kirk...

I know they mention an Admiral Archer, but that's the extent, so far as I know.
