Re: On Americans, Europeans, and Political Ideology
I never liked Bush. Anyone who comes off, in a literate sense, worse than an impersonator, is a bit of a moron in my view. Moron's shouldn't have the keys to the most powerful nation on the planet.

Morons don't get the keys. The military also doesn't let idiots fly their multi-million dollar jet aircraft. Whether or not you like the man he was not an idiot, moron, or any other way someone would like to insult his intelligence. I don't care for Obama, but you'll never hear me impeach the man's intellect.

I have an undying urge to make a "Oooooooooo" sound about right now. But My opinion is my opinion. I don't force it on any other, nor do i try to convince others, therefore i need not justify it.

Pushed his agenda forward through the objections/deliberations of the rest of the West; proceeded based upon intelligence known to be faulty; fabricated excuses for prosecuting the war; etc.Tsukiyumi wrote:Other than the Iraq war, what did Bush do post-9/11 that had everyone pissed off, again? But that's all Iraq related right?Mikey wrote:Pushed his agenda forward through the objections/deliberations of the rest of the West; proceeded based upon intelligence known to be faulty; fabricated excuses for prosecuting the war; etc.Tsukiyumi wrote:Other than the Iraq war, what did Bush do post-9/11 that had everyone pissed off, again? I liked his policy on China better than Clinton's. China shouldn't be trusted imo.

No, it did in two months what the USSR did in about 24 hours - established a friendly government in Kabul. What the USSR failed to do, what the Empire failed to do, and what the US will failed to do if it tries, is control the country. The best that can be achieved is to convince the locals that the coalition are the good guys, and that the Taleban, despite their recent makeover, aren't.Monroe wrote:9/11 happens and the US does in 2 months what the Soviet Union couldn't ever quite do.
If that's true in the States then it says more about the state of the country than Bush's qualities. He was a target of derision over here long before September 2001.I bet you if we didn't go into Iraq and Katrina never happened than Bush would still be a president people 'wanted a beer with' and could relate to with high approval ratings.

Same here. I guess I wouldn't mind having a beer with him; I just don't want him running my country.

I was watching Independence Day and one of the characters in it had punched the president. I'd give anything to have that story about BushMikey wrote:Same here. I guess I wouldn't mind having a beer with him; I just don't want him running my country.

Only to stick it to the PC's. Though I will say this for the Bloc; they are pro-social services.Praeothmin wrote:

Yes, though they really just use their rhetoric to extort larger transfer payments from the Feds.BQ is that nutball seperatist party, yes?
Ok...then out of interest why was he one of the worst Presidents in US history?Morons don't get the keys. The military also doesn't let idiots fly their multi-million dollar jet aircraft. Re: On Americans, Europeans, and Political Ideology
Wasn't Bush a C student? Hardly any indication of some great mental prowess there.
Hell, what do you call the entire Iraq fiasco if not one giant exercise in idiocy?
Funny. Pretty much everything he did reinforced my opinion of him. IE, that he was an idiot.. Whether or not you like the man he was not an idiot, moron, or any other way someone would like to insult his intelligence.

Re: On Americans, Europeans, and Political Ideology
To be fair to Bush, Iraq was mainly Rumsfeld's doing - the mistake was in appointing him, failing to exercise oversight over him, and then failing to remove him when things went pear-shaped

Bush relied way too much on his staff in general, IMO.

Re: On Americans, Europeans, and Political Ideology
The last "Newsweek" had a great article about the Star Trek movie and its relation to the current administration, but there was a great sidebar equating SW and ST characters to members of the Bush and Obama presidencies. Rumsfeld was Grand Moff Tarkin, in that he began a losing war against ragtag insurgents; and Rove was Boba Fett - being a completely mercenary scalp-hunter.

Re: On Americans, Europeans, and Political Ideology
Here's the thing with King George - you can't be a complete moron and get away with as much as he did. A moron can't get busted for his coke habit and still become president. Foolish, yes; ideology with which I disagree, yes; street-smart enough to become president twice, though.
