Honestly, I think they've mined all the gold they can out of the classic universe. I'm actually interested in Trek again thanks to this, good opportunity to start anew and cram up the canon whores.

I agree. Trek is as of now dying a slow and drawn out death. If this breathes some new life into it and brings it back to its former quality, then I'll be more than happy.

I'm still waiting for an attempt at a crossover for two DIFFERENT universes, versus two similar ones. But yes that would be interesting.

What, like a ST/Dark Tower crossover? :)

I keep hearing that, but if this film does well do we really think we'll be going back to the classic time line any time soon? Call it alternate all you'd like but if this timeline becomes the default time line for future Trek movies and shows then it's pretty much the official one.
Or they may plan for a crossover between the two universes.

We will just have to wait and see.

No, you have got it backwards! It is Romulus which is destroyed by a supernova in the 24th century. Nero destroys Vulcan after returning to the 23rd century. His plan is to destroy every Federation world in the 23rd century. Not 100% sure whether that is purely for revenge - he says something which suggests his grand plan is that without the Federation the Romulan Empire will become all powerful (and presumably will not need anyone's help to avoid being toasted by the supernova).

Actually, that is something I hadn't fully considered - the "classic" timeline (if that is what we are calling it) now has no Romulus. The Remans have to be pretty pleased about that. They did get quite some warning, though, so you would think at least the more important Romulans would have gotten out of there. (Side note: Surely you would notice the summers getting hotter and think, I wonder if that's our sun going supernova?)

Another point: In the film, Spock says only 10,000 Vulcans remain, as Vulcan gets only a few minutes warning of Nero's attack. Is this figure likely to be referring to survivors from Vulcan itself, or including colonies? To what extent do the Vulcans have colonies in the 23rd century? (No, Romulus does not count.) We know they have the sanctuary at P'Jem, assuming the Andorians let them stay there after removing all the spy equipment. There must be others.

More Clipz - Awesome!

Post by Victory is Life »

In case anyone hasn't seen these. I especially love the clips of the Romulans. Seems like JJ rewrote the way Stardates are done, now referencing the year?

did you not understand? Posting spoilers randomly without any warning is not only stupid, but inconsiderate to those who'd rather not know until they see the film for themselves. Don't do it again.

I concur. Good call.
