Yeah. This is some serious medieval stuff.

This is the same country where a Prince will go to a party with foreign workers (usually Western) and rape a female guest and then toss her 10K, so now she's a prostitute (in his mind). I'm not shocked about this at all. The sooner the oil runs out in the ME, the better.Rochey wrote:Yeah. This is some serious medieval stuff.

You know, before recently I thought of the UAE as one of the more moderate countries in the ME. Shows just what the fuck I know.

In that case, I'm not sure I want to know what goes on elsewhere.

The UAE is one of the more modren and tolerant countries over there, granted it still has its issues..... hate the fact we are dependant on that region.

Well we really aren't "dependant" on anything. We have sources to go elsewhere. Other power sources of different kinds that I'm to lazy to start typing. The big problem is that oil is a "known" quality where for the most part the newer energy sources aren't. People are fearful of change. Energy companies feed those fears and most governments (or the people running them) make to much money to care.
I did hear once of a project that stated the US could switch away from Oil power to other replacible sources in as little as six months. Though this would be highly costly since it would require the Government to pay for most peoples cars to undergo engine replacement.
Another downside is that most of the equipment in our military wouldn't be able to make the switch. This would force the US armed forces to rely on the Oil Reserve until everything could be replaced. Again, a very costly figure.
I can't quote you a source since it was word of mouth and they used a lot of numbers which I couldn't even begin to understand. Though most of the people in the room nodded a lot and seemed pretty sure of it all.

Even if it cost a lot to do, a switch for the public would mean drastically reduced operating costs for the military if they kept using the same sources.

You would think if it was a switch to another liquid fuel that the existing diesels should be able to handle it. They can burn pretty much anything with a little switching of parts.

Exactly what source or alternate fuel are they talking about?
