Ireland Wins the Grand Slam

Post by colmquinn »

Ireland beat Wales today to take the 6 Nations Rugby trophy, unbeaten in any of their games so they get the "Grand Slam" and best of all a guy from my home town got a Try (a guy who grew up beside the feela who shares my house with me). Yeah for Ireland, Wales 15 Ireland 17
:rave:

Have that rest of western europe (well the important countries anyway)

Last hope for the Welsh.....

Man, my heart was in my mouth during that last kick. I was sure the guy was going to get that penalty, and so was everyone else (including the announcer, by the sound of it!). Terrific match.

As a Welshman, I was also holding my breath, but hoping it would go over.....

Well done Ireland.

It's a poor sport for the spectators.

There's no such professional sport as "rugby", either.

A sport played by thugs and watched by gentlemen, as opposed to football which is played by gentlemen and watched by thugs :)

Football is an even worse sport.

And you got the saying a bit wrong - it's that rugby is a game for thugs played by gentlemen, and football a game for gentlemen played by thugs.

Besides that, "rugby" doesn't even exist.

Well, if Vinnie Jones is any indication, I'd have to agree with Thorin.

Though I guess he's on about the division between some arcane things called "rugby league" and "rugby union," which I have no concept of.

Vinnie Jones is a thug even by football standards, although hardly unique - the Wimbledon team he was part off in the early 90s was nicknamed "the Crazy Gang". These days Rooney seems to be doing his best to one-up him. Which has its advantages, since it means United have lost their best striker just when they need him most.

I don't follow soccer at all, and English league play less even than American soccer, and even I know Jones for his violence.
