At first, watching the various news clips, I thought it was just another case of Letterman being a dick, but after watching that, I'd say Joachin is either on some drugs, or has gone off the deep end.

Letterman was being a dick, though.

No, it's Letterman's job to evoke some entertainment value out of his guests. Phoenix was just being... well, I don't know.

So, making fun of the very concept of him performing music, and provoking him with insulting comments was entertainment? Funny, when I do that, people just call it "rude". :?

He was monosyllabic when talking about other things, but he perked up and seemed plenty normal when they mentioned his music.

Still, I'm leaning towards "hoax" for this whole thing.

I don't think I've ever seen Letterman 'cross the line' He tends to walk the line sometimes (haha get it? He interviewed Phoenix and he walked the line... *ahem*). But seriously Letterman is one of the most thought provoking comedians still out there.

See, I'd call it "rude" if you did it to me, but "funny" if you did it to a third party.

I agree with what Monroe said - he can seem a little harsh at times, but I wouldn't consider him a dick. I like him myself.
