Chimp shot to death after mauling woman

I suppose this makes clear the dangers of letting an animal 5 times stronger than you are roam your property as a pet?

It trapped the cops in their cars??? Goes to show who's more intelligent.

It does not surprise me, these are wild animals we are talking about, dogs have been domesticated for millennia, chimps on the other hand....not so much.

YAY, I went up a rank 8)

Chimps are wild animals with nearly the intelligence of humans, and I don't think it's safe or ethical to keep one as a pet.

(One thing to note, though, is that there are two species of chimpanzee: Pan troglodytes, the common chimpanzee, which is more into the old ultraviolence, and Pan pygmaeus, the pygmy chimpanzee or bonobo, which is more into the old in-and-out.)

Yeah, I don't know which one is scarier. :worried:

Chimps can do a lot of damage in a fight. Apart from our size, humans physicaly suck compared to most animals. I'm pretty sure I've heard a news story of an escaped chimp dismembering someone at a zoo somewhere a few years ago.

I saw one show about the differences between chimps and humans, and it was pointing out that our jaw muscles have really deteriorated compared to theirs - and you can see this in the cranial structure, because chimps have these huge indentations in their skulls where their jaw muscles go. I think it said that chimps have twenty times more jaw strength.

What on earth could go wrong with an ape as a pet?

At least it wasn't a male gorilla.
Or Orangutan.

Damn, yeah. Quite tragic there. Although a chimp as a pet... yeah. Not a good idea there for any reason.

Indeed, this is one thing credited with creating the space for our gigantic brains - which make Homo Sapiens by far and away the most dangerous ape, primate, or animal of any kind on Earth, puny bodies notwithstanding. :worried:

Yup, what other primate makes guns, shoots them, and then goes and spits on their dead because they didn't like them.

I had no idea that chimps were Anthony Burgess fans.

IDK... gorillas are generally peaceful, and vegetarians (unlike chimps.) Also, a male gorilla will give all sorts of warnings to an offending animal before it resorts to violence. Orangutans, as I understand, can be dangerous but are slothful enough to require some real ticking-off to get to that point.

Yes but talking Chimps can lead rebellions that overthrow humanity!

When I've been to the Bronx Zoo and see the signs about the Animal Conservation society, I sometimes muse that one might prefer an animal conversation society. :)
