Re: Woman arranged rapes to turn victims into suicide bombers
As to the Manson comment - this is worse. Charlie Manson was evil, to be sure, but evil inasmuch as he is the new textbook example (since DSM-III) of what is variantly called sociopathic, psychopathic, or antisocial personality disorder. Manson is able to distinguish right from wrong, but medically incapable of caring for the distinction. This woman intentionally twisted her morality to convince herself that what she was doing was right, for the "cause."

No, it wouldn't. Do you have any idea how many police officer deliberately and knowingly lie on the stand to secure a conviction?Rochey wrote:The only time I'd ever feel happy about declaring someone's guilty before they've had a trial is if they were caught by the police right in the middle of dismembering the corpse. In that instance, it'd be safe to say they're guilty.

And just because your cutting up the corps doesnt mean you killed it.
Personally I dont think there should ever be a death penalty.
It costs more to kill someone than it does to keep them alive.
Its not a effective deterant.
Mistakes can happen.

Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

That remark was made in jest, you know.
I'd say that depends on the method. It costs more to kill someone than it does to keep them alive.

No it doesnt. Its not the physically doing it that costs a lot, its the special facility, the guards, the courts (A minimum of 3 appeals I think) that costs a lot.

People who do this aren't even human, just evil monsters in my opinion.GrahamKennedy wrote:http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/ ... 61,00.html
A WOMAN suspected of recruiting more than 80 female suicide bombers has confessed to organising their rapes so she could later convince them that martyrdom was the only way to escape the shame.
Samira Jassam, 51, was arrested by Iraqi police and confessed to recruiting the women and orchestrating dozens of attacks.
In a video confession, she explained how she had mentally prepared the women for martyrdom operations, passed them on to terrorists who provided explosives, and then took the bombers to their targets.
"We arrested Samira Jassim, known as 'Um al-Mumenin', the mother of the believers, who was responsible for recruiting 80 women'', Major General Qassim Atta said.
"She confessed her responsibility for these actions, and she confirmed that 28 attempts had been made in one of the terrorists' strongholds,'' he said.

I always just thought of them as subhuman. Though in truth a lot of it isn't their faults. Their leaders do everything possible to keep them blind to the world at large.People who do this aren't even human, just evil monsters in my opinion.

I don't care how someone leads (or misleads) you - if you think something like this is OK, you're not human.

I don't want to get all nasty about things (or get banned off the forum!) but does no one really get just how evil and twisted people can become simply because they follow a religion? Should be illegal if you ask me, but I'll say no more.

I get what your saying, but not exactly, it's more of the extremist that are evil, not the mainstream religious person.

Hell, I've always been of the opinion that religion has done far more harm than good, and wouldn't be the least bit unhappy if everyone woke up tomorrow as atheists.
That said, outlawing it isn't right either. It's a matter of freedom of choice as to what people want to believe, and there's no real way to justify forcing someone to believe something.
The best sollution is to just keep religion out of the government, tax the churches, keep religion out of schools, and come down like a tonne of bricks on any religious figure who advocates death or violence based on their religion.

Well, extreemism is one thing but again, look where's its coming from. Getting to the root of the problem would be strict enforcement of making religion illegal in government, public events other than church gatherings, mass, or whatever. Should be completely seperate and private, and be illegal to promote it in anyway but no more, not coming back to this topic!!!

No, please do come back to it. We're adults here, and should be able to discuss this. First -
Here's where it gets stickier. Do you believe people have the right to believe what they wish? If so, how do you reconcile that? Mormons, for example, or certain Jehovah's Witnesses (I think) take proselytization as a cetnral tenet of their faith. It may seem like common sense to say "Believe what you want but don't promote it to others" - but by denying that promotion, you are in effect denying them the right to believe what they want.
No. For someone to act that way, they'd have to be evil and twisted inherently - religion might be a convenient excuse, that's all.MetalHead wrote:I don't want to get all nasty about things (or get banned off the forum!) but does no one really get just how evil and twisted people can become simply because they follow a religion? Where's you rline, though? Should it be illegal for me to openly wear a mezzuzah or mogen David, or for my wife to wear her crucifix? I would call what jewelry I wear to be private - but you might call it promotion. What if I had a mass card or novena card lying on my desk, even if I dodn't say anything?MetalHead wrote:Getting to the root of the problem would be strict enforcement of making religion illegal in government, public events other than church gatherings, mass, or whatever. Yes, It is a very central part of our faith. And so yes, it would be like saying that you can't have mass to a catholic, because it is that central a part of our faith. Here's where it gets stickier.
