Happy Birthday, Charles!

Post by Sionnach Glic »

As some of you may know, today is the 200th birthday of Charles Darwin, perhaps the most controversial man today.

I would post my "one year less 'till you die" pic, but it's kinda moot given that he's already dead. Oh well.

Hooray for rational thought! :)

Yeah, where does the "velcro fly" fit on the evolutionary scale, anyways?

Helping to point out the flaws of religion for 200 years. Genius.

Hmmm... I believe in a religion, and I have no problem with evolution at all. Helping to point out the flaws of fundamentalism, maybe.

Bit of a sweeping statement i suppose

Doesn't mean he ain't a great man though - for he still lives on, burning in the back of every fundamentalists brain annoying them :)

If only more people believed him...
What does defeat mean to you?

Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

Well, if we're lucky, all the ones who don't will fall behind in the race to breed.

Now that would be irony - creationism being eradicated by natural selection.

An intersting point is that in Darwin's time, people weren't taking the bible as literal as most creationists do. They 'knew' the Earth probably wasn't created in 6 days.
Another interesting point is that Darwin isn't as atheistic as people depict him. in fact, he was a dedicated christian, hoping to prove Gods creation.

Aye, that's one thing a lot of fundies get wrong. They automaticaly assume that anyone who came up with anything that was later used by athiests must have been an atheist themself. This is, obviously, not true.
Hell, even Occam, the one who pointed out that there was no logical way to prove God existed, was a monk. He created Occam's Razor to show that belief in God is purely based on faith. Yet nowadays Occam's Razor is one of the most common methods of proving God's inexistence.
