Re: Christian Bale Goes Apesh*t
I think he makes a good point, personally. If he's spent hours getting fully into character, and some douche ruins the mood by walking by eating a sandwich (it's considered extremely rude to walk around during a take the way the guy did), he should be pissed off.

Yeah, I'd react the same way. That one shot probably cost millions of dollars and apparently the guy had done it before.

He sounds a bit like me when I get really pissed off.Rochey wrote:Man, that guy really can swear.

And, after listening to it again, I still think he was right to be pissed.

People make like celebrities aren't allowed to fly off the handle at stupidity. It's they're friggin' right as Americans to do so!

I agree; I don't think it's such a big deal. I certainly don't have an aversion to swearing (when possible). ![Wink ;)](./images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)

Latest reports are that the guy was a complete asshole to all and sundry, and Bale has become a hero to the entire cast and crew for telling this guy about himself.

Re: Christian Bale Goes Apesh*t
I read a thing about this written by a guy who has worked on many movie sets. He had a few things to say which I found interesting...
First, the guy being shouted at is a Director of Photography. He repeatedly walked through the set during a take. This is an absolutely no-no in the world of moviemaking, and considered to be one of the more unprofessional things a person can do. And certainly somebody in his position should have known better than to do it several times.
Second, setting up for a typical take in which two people are just talking to one another can take the combined efforts of a hundred or more people working for upwards of an hour, and cost upwards of $20,000. That's what this guy blew, over and over again.
Three, many jobs involve stress, but very few jobs involve the kind of emotional stress that acting does. Bale especially is a method actor, and method actors whole way of working is to get themselves to feel what the character is feeling. If the character is angry, Bale wouldn't pretend to be angry, he would literally try and make himself be angry. As a result method actors tend to be very, very intense and emotional people when they are working, most especially if the scene they are working on is an intense scene. It may seem silly to outsiders, but in the industry it's well known that you DO NOT disrupt an actor when they have psyched themselves up like this, let alone do it several times over.
Four, precisely because the money stakes and the pressure and intensity are so high, blowups are frequent on movie sets. The guy I read did admit that ranting on for four minutes was a very long outburst, but rants in general are commonplace. James Cameron for example, is famous for having an absolutely volcanic temper on the set despite being very mild mannered off set. When asked why once, he just shrugged and said "I've found that it gets results."
Lastly, the guy suggested that given his method acting rep, Bale may actually have let himself blow up like this on purpose, precisely to psych himself up and become as angry as possible so that he could use it in the next take. It's not at all unusual for a method actor to seize on such opportunities and use them this way.
Personally I think the whole thing is rather a storm in a teacup. So he shouted at somebody, big deal.

Re: Christian Bale Goes Apesh*t
Graham is right, so he shouted, whoop-de-do.
Unfortunately there's this thing called "pop culture" and "celeb" junkies go nuts for this stuff.
Only thing I thought of was how scary that must have been to the guy who got the shouting at, as Bale isn't exactly scrawney...

Shame he did so much work for those batman films and in the films they're edited so that you can't really see them. Pity...
