Today he's said to sign the order to close Gitmo within a year :D

None. They always surrender right before they finish the job and never tell you why.

He's showing some improvement over his predecessor already - Bush probably wouldn't have noticed anything was amiss, and bumbled on regardless.

There was an article in today's paper about the stuff he did on his first day. Apparently he made calls to the majority of the ME governments, signed orders RE Gitmo, froze the wages of anyone earning above 100K$ to prevent them getting any more money, and some other stuff. It's an improvement already.

The biggest thing he's done has gotten the least press.

He's made the white house and its dealing much more transperant and made it easier for people to get information under the freedom of information act.

Good to hear. Just two days into the four year presidency, and it's already shaping up to be a damn lot better than that monkey you were stuck with for the last eight years.

Admitedly it would have been scary if that weren't the case.

what's Gitmo?

I thought he was closing Guantonomo, Cuba.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

That's what is informally called "Gitmo."

From Wikipedia, it suggests that since the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base is coded "GTMO," this is colloquially pronounced and written "gitmo."

The naval base has been there a while (seen "A Few Good Men?") but it's the prison at gitmo that's the issue.

Yeah, we've owned Guantanamo Bay since after the Spanish-American War (people forget about that one a lot). The Naval Base is slightly older.
There is only one way of avoiding the war – that is the overthrow of this society. However, as we are too weak for this task, the war is inevitable. -L. Trotsky, 1939

You're overthinking it. :P
