New update - current estimate at "3 to 5 geese."

Anyway, it's more than just knowing to ditch in the river because of the ground cover. Remember the plane that went down of the Indonesian beach? About 200 of 250 died because that pilot didn't stall intentionally and keep the yaw at 0 and pitch backwards slightly. Result - the plane landed softly enough, but caught a tip, cartwheeled, and came apart.

US Air has had a rough past merging with different airlines and now with America West. The usual management vs labor, or labour , stuff has been going on since the conception of passenger carriers. But since 9/11 everyone in the industry has been hurt and not getting paid what they deserve.

3 to 5....WOW!

It will be interesting to see the US Air accident be recreated. There have been some recreations of crashes or incidents, with minimal or no injuries, in the flight simulators. Now sims are good for somethings, but it is really just a big video game. Interesting thing is that in some instances the recreation in the simulation would have had disastrous results if it had been the real thing.

The US Coast Guard has released footage of the plane crash.

A hell of a nice landing, all things considered.
