Now, Rochey, don't go making generalizations about the US. We have that kind of moron everywhere, not just the South.Rochey wrote:Remember, Kendall, there are actualy people out there who think that Bush did a good job as president. God Mark calm down, its not like there is a middle eastern war to report on...
What does defeat mean to you?
Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

War? War? Where the hell are your priorities, Teaos? This "war" is merely the deaths of hundreds of Arabs. How can that at all compare to the importance of Bush's cat?

Re: Bush- the next Republican star?
There used to be another rising star Bush. He was George Prescott Bush, son of Jeb Bush, a young Republican, and a minority too. His mother is Mexican. He was blazing red hot when George W. Bush was serving his first term. He vanished from the media a little after the Iraq War started. People who followed his rise and then mysterious disappearance from the mainstream have speculated that he vanished from the mainstream in order to protect himself and the President from talk of why this Bush isn't serving in Iraq. However in 2007 he was able to add military service to his record when the United States Navy Reserve selected him for training as an Intelligence Officer.
So my non-American friends, there could very well be another George Bush in the White House in our future.

Re: Bush- the next Republican star?
I simply don't understand the mindset of "why isn't your son serving"? The US possesses an all volunteer miltary, days of the draft are long passed, so why is it a requirement that so and so's kid isn't serving. Or "why aren't you encouraging him too"?
Now I'll be the first to admit that I loved my career in the Forces and people who serve get +1 respect from me but the simple fact is that people fucking die in it. I'm a father and despite my hope that my son and daughter will one day serve, I am also nervous that they could be killed. A father should not have to bury his child. Besides, not everyone is cut out for military service. Hendrix was discharged for masturbating in the platoon room for example. And even though you can make pretty much anyone into a soldier, that does not mean they will be any good at it or that they wouldn't be better employed elsewhere.

Re: Bush- the next Republican star?
Indeed, I always found the "if you support the war, why are none of your kids serving" to be idiotic. Maybe it's because the kids don't want to serve? And if they don't, then that has jack shit to do with their parent's policies.

Re: Bush- the next Republican star?
The people who make those statements think that if these politicians had children serving in the military, they wouldn't be so quick to send them off to war. I disagree with that. Sarah Palin for example was proud to have her son ship out to Iraq and wanted to continue operations there. So I don't believe politicians base their war voting on their children's servitude to the military branches. Those people expecting adult young men and women to serve in a war their parents voted for simply because their parents voted for it aren't thinking.
"If you support the war, why are none of your kids serving?" People who ask this question never consider if the "kids" in question even support the war themselves.

Re: Bush- the next Republican star?
In the cases of Bush (jr.) and Clinton, at least, the talk was based on their lip-service to military service contrasted with their lack of self-sacrifice to it. In general, though, I don't think military service is necessarily a requirement for high office. George Bush (sr.) had a distinguished career as a Navy pilot, but it didn't help.
Ah, yes. George Prescott Bush. A man whose Mexican descent made George H. W. Bush refer to his great-nieces and great-nephews as "the little brown ones."

I despise politicians and especially despise those, both Dem and Rep, that try to create a family empire. But ya know most of the electorate behave like sheep.

Re: Bush- the next Republican star?
Bush Sr wasn't that bad. For a one term president he did alright. Remember he was smart enough to know not to go into Iraq after defeating them because, as Dick Cheney said at the time, it'd be a quagmire without end.
As a whole our military background presidents haven't been bad. T Rosevelt, Taylor, Washington, Eisenhower, Bush Sr what not. Jackson is on the boarder. And Grant sucked.

I really don't see a problem with having a president who never served in the military. It's not like he's commanding troops in the field.
