Well. he is omnipotent. So if he wants to walk, he'll walk. The question of having legs would be ouit of the question in said case.

You know, the old question "Could God create a rock so big that even God could move it?" I managed to land myself a weeks detention by asking "Why would He waste time trying something that stupid just to find out?
That was the wrong answer it seems.

Your answer seems very reasonable to me. How much time did you actually spend in class?
No trees were killed in transmission of this message. However, some electrons were mildly inconvenienced.
Re: Catholic Church Embraces New Age Woo-Wooism
Judging by the time spent in detention, probably about 5% of the time he was at school. At most.
EDIT: when thinking of that, the first image was the principal of the school saying: DETENTION! Quite a specific principal. mr. Kaplan, from Angel Grove.

Shouldn't he already know? Anyway, that is a good answer. I mean if the guy is actually around, should he not have better things to do than buggering around with rocks?Mark wrote:You know, the old question "Could God create a rock so big that even God could move it?" Well "HIS" first attempts at buggering about with rocks would appear to have been making planets and such so maybe he's decided that his earlier attempts were rubbish so he's going to try again.
But I can't throw, I throw like a geek!

From the looks of it Mark would have learned more useful stuff in detention than in that school's classes, anyway. I'm guessing they graduated him just to be rid of him.

It's funny; when I was 16, and in CCE classes (Catholic after-school school to get ready for Confirmation), my mom was the volunteer teacher, so I pretty much came up with the lessons, and ran the class. I taught everyone there to interpret the book their own way, and never let anyone force you to accept any specific doctrine as truth.Captain Picard's Hair wrote:From the looks of it Mark would have learned more useful stuff in detention than in that school's classes, anyway. Religion really doesn't care for people thinking for themselves. Good thing they never caught on to what I did, but I like to think that maybe I made a slight difference there.

And that's why I like Voltaire. We're studying the Enlightenment in A.P. European History. I've read some of Voltaires stuff, and I gotta say, he makes good points.Tsukiyumi wrote:It's funny; when I was 16, and in CCE classes (Catholic after-school school to get ready for Confirmation), my mom was the volunteer teacher, so I pretty much came up with the lessons, and ran the class. Edited for accuracy and fairness.Tsukiyumi wrote:Some religions really don't care for people thinking for themselves.
The old "rock He can't lift" paradox is a constant source of discussion for the non-religious; but it's a red herring when introduced into a conversation with a religious person, if you're actually trying to develop an intelligent discourse. The only purpose of that question is to highlight the paradox itself, rather than promote discussion or induce a better fundamental understanding of a faith. Even the uber-religious in my faith - my childhood rabbi was himself a student of the last lubavitcher rebbe - would agree with Mark, that an understanding of faith doesn't come from an analysis of geological conception.
