For shame, Mikey. You don't know how much RAM your wife can support?Mikey wrote:Wow. I don't think I know that much information about my wife.

Wow, I have precisely no idea what any of that info means.

I'm better off than that. I have a keyboard. Model: a black one, with all kinds of buttons on it.

Re: Your computer!
You know, my current machine isn't especially mind blowing by the standards of modern computers, but it's at least up to spec by the standards of a good, proper 2008-model machine. And, this weekend it really hit home how superior it is to the 5 year old Pentium 4 system it replaced this past June. I've been burning DVDs that can play on a standard DVD player for my parents, which means I have to re-encode them from the high compression format I downloaded them from off the internet. I was able to do this on my old machine, but it was a really, really painful process: it took 8-10 hours, and for that entire duration the machine was unusable. It just would not respond if I wanted to do anything else while the system was coping with the demands of re-encoding a full length film. Now, not only does the re-encoding take a less than a quarter of the time but the system is just as responsive as ever while it's doing this. Right now I'm in the middle of encoding The Dark Knight to be burned on a DVD, downloading Iron Man and Cloverfield (per my father's request), listening to music, browsing the web, and even have other programs open all at once, with no noticeable slowing in responsiveness. Programs open as quickly as ever, and I've even played good quality video with no skipping and done other things while the encoding was in progress. Right now my CPU appears to be at about 66% of maximum load with all this going on.
The calling card of these modern dual-core processors is meant to be multitasking, and now I see what that means! If my old system tried to do all of this at once while remaining usable, it'd be a smoking wreck. This for only about $600 this past June.![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
