Re: Gay Rights
I've yet to understand exactly WHY god allegedly hates gay people so much. I mean, he has no problem with those who prefer blondes to redheads, tall to short, stupid to smart... but gender, he gets all huffy about?

Re: Gay Rights
Like Staplic and I were saying: there are a couple of passages that can be interpreted as anti-homosexual messages, but there is no direct statement from God ever mentioned (like "Thou shalt not be gay"). Clearly, it's another case of people twisting religious literature to match their own personal predjudices.

Re: Gay Rights
I see it as...
with all the murderers, rapists, sex offenders, torturers, terrorists, teen pregnancy and other major Chrisitan sins that are down here occuring, he's going to take up the big issue gays?
I have yet to see picket lines forming condeming the local cheerleader who got herself pregnant after the state championship!

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Re: Gay Rights
I've always said that me response to any law against gay marriage would be to add clauses making it a crime to divorce or commit adultery - with adultery defined in line with Jesus' teaching that it consists of merely looking at a woman lustfully.
Let the idiot right wingers sputter and explain why it's fine to disobey THOSE biblical orders.

Though what's the general attitude in Ireland, UK, and wherever the rest of you are from?

Re: Gay Rights
I can't speak to Ireland, but in the UK we introduced civil unions for gays in 2004. The government was careful to stress that these were NOT marriages... but it confers almost the exact same legal right as marriage does, and is basically a marriage in all but name. All major parties supported the act, though some individuals and groups did criticize it. Part of the act recognised gay marriages or equivalent from a whole bunch of other countries as being in force in the UK too.
Lo and behold, the sky has not fallen in and amazingly enough all the heterosexual marriages have withstood the onslaught. God is tardy in delivering his wrath, it seems.

Re: Gay Rights
Well, screw him. He's not the boss of me.
Seriously, I have many, many times asked christians "by what right does god presume to lay down rules for me to follow and punish me for not following them?"
And I have never, ever received an answer that didn't sum up to either "he made you so he owns you", or "might makes right". Quite telling, I think.

Pfft. God created man in his image, remember? Which means I've got a good idea where people's tendency to delete their messages without looking at them comes from...Tsukiyumi wrote:He's out to lunch for at least another thousand years. Be assured, he'll be pissed when he checks his messages.

You know what's funny? There's a couple passages in the bible that you can easily interpret as "you shouldn't get married at all". Re: Gay Rights
Agree with the general sentiment here: "Separation of church and state" is a farce now, and any attempt to take it seriously would be a political minefield. And, yes, I see it as a "rights" issue, not a "gay" one. Ditto on "
right to these religious kooks have to impose their values on the rest of us" and "
does God have against gays anyway."
-----------
One thing that's always gotten me about these fundies is the point that (as they take pains to ram into your head) God created people. God, then, created gays. Supposedly, one argument goes something like "God gives people the challenge of immoral inclinations as a test for them to overcome and prove their devotion to His word" or some BS like that. Huh? If that is their image of God, it's no God I want to worship, and - why would he create some people with "immoral" tendencies but not others? (Don't even go into the argument that homosexuality is some kind of willingly made choice
)
Of course, you could just say that well, "God created gay people in his image just like the rest of us..."![angel1 :angel1:](./images/smilies/angel-smiley-010.gif)

If you don't like gay people blaim straight couples, they're the ones that keep having gay babies.
What does defeat mean to you?
Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.
