The Palin is an idiot thread

Post by Graham Kennedy »

I thought it was bad enough with Bush. But geeeeeez.

Palin is asked what newspapers she reads. She replies "all of them"... and can't name any specific one.

Palin is asked what Supreme Court decisions she disagrees with besides Roe v Wade... and can't name any, though she assures us there are many.

Palin asked about the bail out package, flubs it so badly the new guys can hardly believe it.

Palin explaining how the fact that her state is near Russia means she has foreign policy experience.

And on and on.

You know, I watched the West Wing, where everybody was clever and witty and super well informed and good at their jobs. And yeah, that's fiction and life's not like that. But I do like to believe that the people in government are at least reasonably smart and competent. But you really have to wonder if Palin can honestly be as dumb as she is coming across.

I mean for god's sake, she couldn't name a newspaper she's read? Not one? The only actual reason I can think of for that is that she in fact doesn't read any of them. And in general, I can only imagine that she flubs these kinds of questions because she simply doesn't think about issues like this much. Or at all.

I guess she could be trying to not pick favorites but seriously, there are enough big ones out there that you should be able to throw out a few genaric big ones quite easily...

Though the High point for me certanly is with her I live next to Russia so I have Foriegn Policy Experience, never mind the fact that I don't make any decisions about those jets going out or those eyes watching over Russia.

It is really too bad that McCain couldn't have found someone in the Senate who would run with him, then he could of at least continued his attacks about Obama's experience and then about the hypocracy of his choosing Biden while saying he will change things and McCain won't...

Well for Pete's sake I've never even set foot in the country but even I could say "Oh, I try to look through the New York Times, the Washington Post, and Time magazine whenever I can. But I'm so busy getting to grips with the people in the campaign lately I just don't have a lot of time for that kind of thing."

That way if you get hit with a "what was yesterday's headline?" kind of trick question you have a perfect excuse for not knowing, but you don't come off looking like a simpering moron.

From what I've read McCain wanted somebody else and caved because Palin is the darling of the right, what with being anti abortion, pro gun, etc.

I formally endorse this thread.

They might as well take my vote now; there's nothing that's going to happen before election day to change my mind at this point.

What if Obama shows up at an event all dressed up as a pull start loaded down with C-4... J/K. But yeah if I was American I'm not sure who I'd vote for, I like Obama's plan for renewable energy but just pulling out of Iraq is a bad idea...

They raise a good point. It will be good for comedians everywhere if she gets in power.

Craig Ferguson said something along those lines on his show a few nights ago.

Tina Fey does a dead on impersonation of her in Saturday Night Live. Hilarious!

Graham has the right of the issue. Most of the people in Washington, even the ones with whom I disagree, are well-educated and fairly intelligent (I may just deem them misguided.) Most of what we see from Palin is part of the issue that people hear "governor" and assume that she is a fairly cosmopolitan and erudite person. This is patently not the case. She has spent an abbreviated governorship in charge of a state with the same population as what are considered small semi-rural towns in my area; a state in which the governor may, in fact, have a sum total education of five small-time and community colleges in the space of four years; a state in which "I can see Russia from my house" is in fact a valid rebuttal to the claim of lack of foreigh policy experience.

None of this is meant as an excuse. For better or worse, she was picked to be the Veep candidate, and there is no excuse for saying some of the things she has. Telling Brian Phillips in the ABC interview that she's sure that no previous VP-candidate has met foreign heads of state when in fact 30 of them had, and her VP opponent has extensive foreign experience, is inexcusable. Worse, she seems to be inorrigible and unapologetic for her ignorance of how things should be presented on the national stage.

She didn't know what the Bush Doctorine Was! As a "darling of the right" she should know what the f'n Bush Doctorine is.

Can't remember if this was mentioned before, but it's related to the thread.
Did anyone else hear that that enquiry about her (you know, the one McMoron said was unfair because it had an equal number of Dems as Reps on it) found her guilty of misuse of her position? I'll go find that article I read on it now.

I posted a link to an article about it on one of these threads.

Hence the whole "idiot" aspect.

Have to say, from this side of the pond the US election headlines are all, and I mean ALL, about Palin and Obama. McCain seems almost a nonentity, and I don't even remember the last thing I heard about Biden.
